I think same model was use in Rivals when you look at the spoiler, the again the proper E92 M3 GTR would be the same like from Shift cover box. I guess it was an licence issue

no no they just used this one coz the idea was to give the old car a modern look

I know they tried that but this is the body kit that should have been used upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia… That would make more sense cuz This is M3 GTR E46 i.ytimg.com/vi/eAi1lEX2E9Q/max… The one on this pic is a sport variant of a M3 E92 not GTR

I guess it was something with licence cuz they don't put cars in games unless they pay for the licence to the car brand first. I think it costed alot so they used sport variant of e92 instead of GTR e92. Or sometimes the car model was to big some times I find free 3D car models which have at least 15 Mb file sizes. So it was either that or money for licence but I think this licence thing was more in fault.
