Unless that thing was blessed by the church, I sincerely doubt it will do much against creatures that can just as easily break it like a twig in their hands.

I always wondered that too! XD
Thankfully we did have 1 guy who had brains to use it. Reinhardt Schneider. :3

No, look closer. Simon also uses it in Haunted Castle.

Maybe so, but keep in mind, that game was only available in Japan, so not many people knew about it.

Because the whip is a weapon of immense magical power, one of the only things capable of harming the earthly embodiment of all chaotic power.
And the sword is a sword.

Good that at least Reinhart Schneider Belmont did it in Castlevania 64

The only Belmont that I remember using a sword that he already has is Reinhardt Schneider Belmont from Castlevania 64 (but I haven't played many games of the franchise actually)

He's not a Belmont though. <:3

So that means that the 64 games from Castlevania were erased from the continuity too?

you say Reinhart Schneider Belmont is not a Belmont, I though you meant that Castlevania 64 isn't canon, or you meant something else?

He ISN'T a Belmont. But Legacy of Darkness IS canon no matter what anyone says. Evidence is in Judgment were Cornell, the main hero in Legacy of Darkness is a playable character.
I believe the Legacy of Darkness story takes place sometime after the Belmonts vanished because they were not to use Vampire Killer until 1999.

If I remeber well, Richter indeed use it in SOTN.
When you do down, up and attack he do a "shoryuken" with the sword that attacks and was good to reach things that are high .
And in "Haunted Castle" (the arcade version) The sword was one of the weaposs to use, even it was the last to change (I think).

they MADE you use the sword in castlevania 64... because the whip is kinda slow on some situations... specially when you are half-way to being bitten by dracula's pointy fangs

Well, he actually uses his sword in "Haunted Castle" for the arcade.
On a side note, it's actually a good idea to carry a some sort of auxiliary weapon (in addition to sub-weapons) just in case the Vampire Killer gets lost/stolen a la Medievil/broken or whatnot. Clearly Simon isn't some clueless peasant, who walked into Castlevania because he couldn't find home. Nevertheless, it seems that the whip specially designed for fighting monsters, even at its lowest power, is actually a better option than a bulky/heavy iron sword (similar to how some people prefer to get the jewel knuckles early through Symphony of the Night).
But yeah, it still looks funny though.
It's as if he was trying to tell "I'm so badass that I don't need a sword".

Oh yes, Haunted Castle, the game where Simon walks like he needs to take a piss badly, also called the gotta-pee walk. Didn't play that game. Is the sword useful? Does it do more damage, or does it do something the whip can't?
