Description
In my OC canon, Danbuster develops a special friendship with Arline Bunn, the local baker's daughter.
On one occasion as they're getting to know each other, he offers her a slice of his favourite carrot cheesecake (a sure sign of his friendship).
It's really very good and she's impressed to hear it's his own recipe. But then she goes a step further - she tweaks his recipe with a few subtle improvements.
And that's when Danbuster and Arline start to develop a relationship.

Yup, it certainly goes a long way to their developing a relationship - not just the fact they share similar interests (like archery)
Turns out she can take care of herself in a fight, too... one little idea being that she gets assaulted in the street by petty thieves, but by the time Dan comes to her aid, she's already laid them out with a couple of judo throws! (As her father taught her to defend herself)

And indeed, I wanted Arline to be a good character in her own right - still under development, but I see her as an independent girl who does all she can to help, without letting gender stereotypes get in the way...
If they are to build a solid relationship, I want this to be in believable stages...

Well, in the old days, the gender stereotype would be the woman staying in the kitchen and doing as she's told. The modern woman, however, is a feminist who makes such a huge point of doing a man's job to show that she's just as good as a man... that she has, in fact, become a stereotype for a feminism. (The very point made by Knuckles in Sonic Boom, that calling attention to the breaking of gender roles ultimately undermines the point gender equality is trying to make)
Arline attempts to hold a middle ground where she shows herself capable of being a good all-rounder simply to help her widowed father and her friends (and also later, boyfriend)
Much like Pearl supports her husband Leroy Rudderbuck.
(If there are any old fashioned stereotypes, that's more for the mothers, Daniella Leadboot and Willow Wilkinson)
