Something that had been on my mind for a while... I needed to update my old group pic (dcleadboot.deviantart.com/art/β¦ to include the characters I've created since - and to show the development of the existing ones! This new group pic now replaces my old pic as my desktop wallpaper, too!
Here, we now see the whole gang... and more may be added that I haven't officially introduced yet...
Edit: Now updated the group to reflect recent design-changes such as the new drawing style of their eyes.
The main character. That crazy, well-meaning hare we all know so well as my alter-ego! Always getting into some crazy situation or other, but miraculously coming through it unscathed thanks to his mastery of cartoon physics and the help of his loyal friends.
Danbuster's lifelong best friend. That calm, collected, brawny ferret in the green shirt and glasses, whose constant task it is to keep the hare's hare-brained quirks in check. Years of living with Danbuster have really taught him patience.
The scruffy member of Danbuster's trio. An unkempt, twitchy, but basically good and loyal rat who helps Danbuster and Frederick as best he can. Usually the first to register fear in a dangerous situation, but capable of brave deeds that surprise even himself in a tight spot.
Big tough golden eagle who doesn't know the meaning of fear... except the kind experienced by seeing his friends and family in danger. Hatched by a lightning bolt on a stormy night, Marquila is truly a force to be reckoned with and it's just as well he's on our side!
Marquila's cheerful optimistic wife, whose main focuses in life switch between helping him and their ground-bound ally, Danbuster, in any way she can, and raising their sturdy young daughter.
Young daughter of Marquila & Galeforce. As cheerful as her mother, but as courageous as her father, Strongtal has the makings of being as fierce an avian-warrior as her two parents put together when she is grown up. Being only an eaglet, though, she contributes more to the "aww" factor at the moment...
Originally a Sonic-inspired character, but now merged into Danbuster's world as a standalone character and friend. A tough teenaged otter with a natural grace in water, a strong arm and a temper as fiery as the colour of his swimshorts. However, he's a good friend of Danbuster and co, and is always eager to help his friends - especially if it means action for himself and his wife!
Hydrex's equally-tough wife. Though hardly his equal as physical strength, she more than makes up for it with agility and cunning. She's an independant girl and never stands for any nonsense... except perhaps from Hydrex. He gets away with it, because they love each other so dearly!
Younger brother of Marquila, born of the same clutch of eggs. (There were two eggs) Unlike Marquila, he hatched out normally. Despite being the younger of the two, Aquilliam was much more responsible and so became the Laird of their mountaintop hawkbird community, Hawkcrag. Marquila relinquished his birthright freely, in favour of adventure - and just as well. Aquilliam is a polar-opposite to his warlike brother as far as fighting is concerned, despises war and has all the qualities of a model-ruler, weilding the Sceptre of the RocBeaks with a firm but gentle wing.
Just plain Jenny to her friends, this pretty young rat-girl is a nurse who works at a local chemist in Danbuster's district. She is herself a licensed pharmacist with a good knowledge of medicines, as well as a caring nature and a gentle healing paw. More than just a friend to Danbuster and co, she also becomes romantically involved with Spencer.
An old Jewish hedgehog scientist who lives locally to Danbuster and is an old family-friend of the Leadboots. More than just gifted, he is a mechanical genius, the holder of countless diplomas and degrees, and something of an eccentric steampunk inventor.
A young, intelligent Alsatian from Germany who came to live in the United Animal Kingdom to work as Einspine's personal assistant, in order to develop a career in science. Sometimes excitable, especially when someone comes to the door, but eager to learn and already a promising scientist of biochemistry.
If ever you're in a tight spot and need good sound legal advice, Mr Rippovski is your man... er... vampire bat! Still, unlike most solicitors, he won't suck you dry! Of course, being what he is, his office is only open in the late hours.
A teenage warrior-mouse apparently descended from characters from the world of Redwall. (Brian Jacques' world, which is a place that exists even today... they just haven't moved with the times) And yet Darien has been a traveller all his life, spending much time on various sea voyages in his own personal sloop. As a result, he is something of a mixture between the medieval and the modern, wearing an old-fashioned tunic and holding onto old codes of honour, yet learning much of the contemporary culture and becoming acquainted with modern technology. He even adopted the rope-dart weapon from one of the places he visited in his travels to the Far East.
Danbuster's dark twin brother - often branded "evil twin", which neither brother appreciates. Retsubnad had a hard pastlife, leaving him embittered towards the world - so now he studies magic and plans to conquer the world... just to show 'em! Of course, Danbuster cannot allow this, so the two often have to fight over it. Nevertheless, the two do care for each other deep down. Retsubnad may ever be persuaded to help against a common enemy that threatens his own plans for world domination (like, some insane person trying to destroy the world - Retsy cannot allow his future domain to be destroyed, now, can he...?)
Retsubnad's cringing, crawling, sycophantic weasel sidekick. (And with Retsy, "side kick" is often taken literally) Wally seems to be unconditionally loyal to Retsy and does anything he can to help him further his cause... however, he's no fighter, so he stands no chance against Danbuster, Frederick and Spencer when they must resort to force!
Retsubnad's loyal pet gryphon, and favoured mode of transportation when he wishes to make an entrance - or escape the talons of Marquila. Formerly a caged and abused "special attraction" at a freak show, the gryphon was actually rescued by the wizard hare in a rare act of kindness... seeing another creature oppressed for being different apparently touched a nerve with Retsy. So earning a debt of gratitude, the hare made a cherished pet of the magnificent beast, giving him a name, a home and restored dignity, not to mention friendship. In return Thoronraw remains loyal, even if he doesn't always agree with Retsy's dreams of world domination... or occasionally becomes irritated by Wally's pathetic fawning...

Oh. my. god. Where do I even start?! I would hate to sink your boat, especially if this is your full on carer. But oh my god is this just sadning. First of all the porportions. you cannot just la de da with what you want and call it art.Seriously i reccomend art school. Those birds are dreadfully improportionate. It did have an impact on me but not in a nessacarrily good way... Like i said the technique was god awful, but at least the trees and backround looked effortful. I'm not tellling you to stop but improvement is definatley recomended.

This is overall very nice.
One thing though. The body style is slightly off. You also may want to tone down the colors of some of the characters, grass and background. Perhaps try some shading techniques.
Also, when working with the arms (like when they are bending at the elbow), experiment with it a bit. In this piece, the arms look rather stiff. The same with the legs. If the legs are to bend, work with them and draw them do they do not look too stiff.
Perhaps investing in a drawing tablet like a Wacom Bamboo, would help. I have an Intous myself and I must say it is very nice. A tablet would help you alot!
Overall, this is very cute. Thank you for taking the time to read this e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s⦠" width="15" height="15" alt="

Thanks for the critique!
I guess improvement of body and limbs has been kind of an ongoing thing with my character models.
Like, I've been working on something recently, involving a reprise of Cribbs and Fred from the "Hole in the Ground" animation I did a few years ago - I've been really trying to improve my techniques.
I have a Wacom tablet, yes... that has been useful more than once, particularly in some of my Photoshop art and especially with shading.

Thanks, Meckel!
And yes, I hope the change of style makes their eyes more expressive - the eyes are important to me, as they like the windows of the soul... all the main emotion starts from there!

The original submission was from over five years ago. Did you just update the old work, or is this an entirely new drawing that you replaced the old one with?
Great picture. The Dan Clan. I like. All the characters in one scene. Great group shot.

Yes, this was an old picture - as I say in the description, I've just been updating the characters to reflect style-changes.

So you didn't redraw the picture, only updated the colors from the original piece? Just trying to make sure I'm understanding the description properly.

Well, updated parts of the characters really. I have a base-file with my OCs lined up, from which I can get them when I need them.
There were several things to change in this image, such as Danbuster now having cheek-fuzz, Einspine having gained a utility belt, gloves, goggles and yarmulke, and everyone in general now having coloured irises instead of just coloured eyewhites.

Heh, yup... Redwall has certainly been a big deciding influence on my love for anthro-animals...
Of course, these days, I'm trying to break out with my own independent world of characters, hence making them contemporary rather than medieval... Danbuster's still an old-fashioned at heart, though, and Einspine's inventions are very steampunk-orientated!
I still hope to make a Flash cartoon with Danbuster and co - I've got something slowly coming together, but the scenery has to be finished before I start animating the first shot/scene... I'm such a procrastinator...

Good luck with your art!

Thanks a lot!
Darien: Glad you think so, matey! My artist's friend, ~sailex , keeps trying to split my character in two... one for Redwall and one for modern-day, but my artist is having none of it! As far as we're concerned, Redwall is a place you can go to, in a far away country where technology is simply not embraced!
