A character reference for my gryphon character, Thoronraw. Possibly classified as an antagonist, by virtue of being Retsubnad's pet and (possibly) best friend.

Seen increasingly commonly here, since the character was added to my entourage, but I've only recently actually drawn the gryphon's character-model from the front... trying to think how he appears from any other angle than profile was a challenge!

Thoronraw became Retsy's strong right paw, advisor and mode of transportation ever since he was rescued by him from a travelling freak-show, where he was caged and ill-treated by his money-focussed owners.
Retsubnad fed, clothed and educated him, treating his bruised body and giving him back the dignity his critically-rare species deserve. As he had no memory of a name, the hare also gave him the name Thoronraw (meaning "Eagle-Lion"), based on the Sindarin-Elvish from the literature of Tolkien of which Retsy is a long-time big fan.

Thoronraw, natural to his heraldic species, has a slightly proud streak in his nature, but he is respectful to nearly everyone he knows - even to Danbuster and his friends, although his main loyalty lies with his Master Retsubnad. Mild-mannered and quietly spoken, Thoronraw keeps calm in a crisis and often tries to advise his Master to think his schemes through. Peaceful by nature, he harbours a secret vain hope that the obsessive hare will someday give up his mad dreams of world domination so that they can all just settle down to a quiet life as friends together.
The only pet-peeve in the gryphon's present life is Retsy's sycophant sidekick, Wally Babbleton the weasel, whose fawning nature constantly irritates him. In turn, the weasel finds Thoronraw stuck-up and pompous. Despite that, they do like each other really and would most certainly help one another if they were in trouble. However, there is still a slight element of antagonism between them, bordering on mild sibling rivalry.
