Side Story: Fluttershy was at first too timid to follow any of her friends into battle, despite deeply wanting to fight for her friends, she lacked the physical prowess or talent for hand to hand combat. secluding her self in the woods to find a means of fighting with her comrades, she stumbled across the way of the blade. As a way of making up for her lack of power and stamina, Fluttershy focused on developing her own style of Quick drawing, combined with the intimidation factors of her patent Stare. Turning her self loathing for being so weak and meager into motivation for training, Fluttershy made her Stare even stronger, instead of just being able defeat most enemies with a look alone, she can now see and analyze the weaknesses of her adversaries. Now being able to overcome her weaknesses with her own brand of fighting, Fluttershy ventures forth to aid in her friends endeavors

Regarding physical prowess...well, FS did inflict some decidedly uninvited posture correction on a bear, but that sorta falls under extreme veterinary procedures. As such, I can roll with her needing some time & effort to break outta her comfort zone when it comes to equine human interaction of the bloody-bladed variety.
