For the sublight drive technology, I just mimicked what was used on Star Trek. The sublight drive could just as easily be once that manipulates space fabric as you mentioned. The Deep Space Explorer designs are meant to hearken to those of Star Trek.

Very nice work . They are also pretty fast, in ST world they are at warp 9.9 class vessels , that is preety nice indeed . What I like to know is since you have a decent antimatter power unit why is the need for ancient tech of nuclear fusion drives ? Wouldn't it be better if you have sub antimatter power generator for a field AMP to manipulate space fabric for sub light travel ? Well if you say Fusion drives are simply cost effective , than I dont know .
