Description
Started in 1885, the Kirol Valley was born out of the Shadedale Logging Line that ran between Shadedale Logging Camp and Voldex Sawmill, with the line connecting to Oakspace Freight House. The line started with one porter and later on bought a climax, another (smoother riding porter) and this engine, Cooke Mogul Number 4, Samuel.
Named after the the head of the company's son in law, the engine worked lumber and beam trains down to the Freight house before being transferred to working between the Wolfhead Smelters and Redworth Iron Ore Mine. He's done their named Ore Train-The Rollcall (The cars are named after various families who have built and worked and work the mine) as well as their two unnamed rakes of cars.
He suffered one setback in the spring of 1889-the tyre on the center left driving wheel expanded due to not being properly tempered and the tyre, now loose, wobbled until it hit the switch at the yard at Wolfhead Smelters when collecting a train of Raw Iron Beams for the Wolfdream Ironworks (Both the Smelters and Ironworks are owned by the Wolfson Family). This connection with the switch broke the tyre in four and the debris jammed itself in two nearby switches, trapping their switcher: C-T 0-6-0 #1 "Devin" (Named after the chief foreman) in a siding with rails needed for the coal mine.
He was repaired on site once moved to their "Glass and Rivet" siding-a Repair siding for any kind of repair. (Parts needing to be sent to the Ironworks for extensive repair should the need arise). The repairs weren't as bad as first thought and he was steaming again within seven hours.
