Description
Your wordsAre merely
A residue
Reminiscent of something
Said once before
But devoid of
Any real substance
All you are to me now
Is a scent
That lingers
Like the tips of your fingers
Used to
On my body.
The body
You first loved.
You were my first love
As was I for you
Our love grew
Like the hydrangeas
You gave me
And then died
Also like the hydrangeas
Yet, soulmates we
Remained.
But “soulmate”
Indicates
That two people
Are involved
And that is no longer
The case.
Donne may have said
That “no man is an island”
But I sure felt like one
When you began
To pull away.
Surrounded by the sea
Teeming with its uncertainties,
I gave up trying
To swim after you.
So an island I remain
Unclaimed
And I will float
Until I can float
No more.

Hahaha! You go, girlfriend.
And no screw for me, cause I like it.
"Then died, also like the hydrangeas..." favorite part.

I'm glad you like that part. that was my favorite part too. I like how it doesn't actually flow with the poem. It better represents the phrase's (and the poem as a whole) meaning...something was cut short, was killed.

and because it does not flow with the rest of the poem, it lingers in my mind. it is also my favorite part.
