In my version, the "rescuer" is actually the villain who hired the thugs who kidnapped them and set the bomb. He dashes in, disarms the bomb (which doesn't even have to be real), unties the girls and offers them a drink. They don't know that his canteen is spiked with scoplamine, which renders them very suggestible...
