Residing in the treacherous Hagwoods outside of the Templar Varsity are the natives of the land and enemies of the New American republic:
Witches.

Templar boys and girls are taught about seven species of witches, described as cannibalistic, merciless and cunning. The varsity hunt and kill these witches with some pretty sick and twisted methods detailed in their textbooks and harvest their magic for their own purposes within their city.

This is Darby.
Her antlers get caught in branches a lot, jacktree leaves make her sneeze, the only English word she knows is "Nope." and she's very convinced it means yes.
She changes the life of a particularly violent Templar, Elizabeth Warner, (known as Witchhammer) after she realizes this weird, cuddly little moose-thing is one of the "horrible threats" she's been taught to brutally murder all her life, that none of the witches will take Darby into their coven, and that the rest of Zeta Stigma Tau are out to collect her head.
