Description Concept:

For a contest of 'Alice in Wonderland' by Tim Burton I decided to pick the White Queen and reveal her real character.
Just look at the dark hair, eyes and lips and you will see, that there's a goth inside. And here it goes.
The White Rabbit is flabbergasted by her look, the spiderwebs at the door make the cat look drooling and perhaps the rabbit also is flabbergasted by seeing dame-stones where he supposed chess-figures.

My theme song for this is 'Collide - White Rabbit (Jefferson Airplane cover)'.

Nice to know:

Chess is an old chinese war game, training in strategy and tactics. And many other games derived from that, not only some kind of 3d-chess in the series of 'Star Trek'. Imagine all those table-top games and those basing on hex-fields.

Technics:

After picking many references I created some rough drawings, which I used to illustrate this within Photoshop.
My usual technic is similar to airbrush. Masking the single elements (so I don't need to take that much care of the borders later on). Custom texture brushes increase the credibility. The original size would fit on a poster.
By example the robe has been made by several strokes of a smooth standard brush of Photoshop. Afterwards I used the liquify-filter to increase the sharpness of the edges and painted textures over it in different layer modes.

Here goes the White Rabbit

Wow, I think this is amazing, and you really have a good angle at the White Queen!! I also thought when I saw her that maybe she covered up the black with the white on purpose or something!!! xD

Thank you! It was meant the Way that she just was hiding her darker Side. You can see some dark Parts of her even as the White Queen, which initially made me illustrating this

Wow!!! Really great work. You know, I created an alternative suite of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland with one of my friends and Mirana is the "Black Queen" x) But we didn't think she was so... wow. xD It really looks like Anne <3

I add it to my favourites u__u.

Thank you so much! I hope she looks like Anne, else it would be waste of my Time. There are Photos enough about Anne Hathaway to have enough References to make her look the Way she does (or would as a Goth Queen ) when painting this.

And thanks for Adding, of course!

Hi!

DeadInTheAttic In reply to little-nuri [2010-07-23 10:23:55 +0000 UTC]

Danke nochmals!

This is my choice.

Hope you win.

Thanks for your support. Well, though the contest was the initial moment to paint this, I never figured out to have any chance, for it is not that 'fantastic' or 'self portrayed'-like. But finally I was able to make the queen gothlike the way I thought her to be.

Nevertheless, thanks for you compliment, much appreciated!

You should've ranked. I don't know if you checked out the top 25 or winning 3, but the top 25 had 15 Hatters and none of the winners struck me as the ones deserving of winning.

You're welcome.

Thank you! Well, one day for concept and rough sketches. Another one for the rabbit, a day for the background, another one for the woman and the fifth one for cleaning up (mostly the clothing of the woman).
But actually I was hoping to take only three days for this, but the clothing really was difficult (it took me three starts for her white robe).

So thanks again, see you!
