Description
I've never done a decent illustration of Hecate, much less depicted what I thought her home looked like.As Hecate is the guardian that allows or denies entry into the underworld, I imagine her home is right next to the fence that borders the river Styx.
If you delve into Greek mythology, you'll notice that Cerberus and Hecate have the exact same job and are very similar to each other. Perhaps there are multiple entrances into the underworld. I prefer to think that Hecate got bored of just watching the gate, and so trained the three-headed dog to do her job while she went and did other things. Dogs are the most sacred animal to Hecate, so it's not exactly wild to think that she would do something like this.
Did you know that Styx is a goddess who took the form of a river? Hecate and Styx were both Titans that became Goddesses after supporting Zeus in the Titanomachy and the Olympians won. As Styx had chosen the form of a river, there isn't much power that she is bestowed simply because she chose not to really have any in the first place because of the form she took. To honor her support, Styx became a very important river and became a bonding oath for all deities. Hecate similarly was given a great honor, in that she is the only former Titan to have kept all the power she had that previously every Titan enjoyed. This ended up making Hecate one of the most powerful Gods in all of Greek mythology. Perhaps just as if not even powerful than Zeus himself, though she never really exerts her power.
I do not practice Wicca, though I strongly love and support it. From what I can tell, those who have direct interactions with Hecate can tell you for certain that she is extremely powerful and terrifying to work with. Most of what she likes to do is mess with your mind. If you don't confront your demons yourself, she will make you.
Admittedly I created this character just because I thought a dark and "evil" character would be fun to have. But in an attempt to accurately portray her as the actual Goddess, I now completely adore the actual Hecate and I can only hope that my sheer dedication and constant studying comes through in my equine depiction of her. I have spent many, many hours researching Hecate and every time I write something about my character, I always have at least 5 tabs open full of research to make sure I'm doing everything right. It is fun to have a character like her, and I hope the actual Hecate (if she's out there) appreciates my effort.
