I had abandoned my character Nyxekate, and Yvee has simply stopped doing art as a whole since her life is... Well, she's getting better. One of them was accepting a truth it took her years to finally admit to herself and I am so proud of her for recognizing it and now fully embracing it.
When I created my character Hecate, I realized a few months later that she was extremely similar to Nyxekate in many ways, from nickname to personality to design. Nyxekate's name is even derived from "Nyx" and "Hekate". So I decided to make her a past iteration of my current Hecate, which ultimately brought up the question, "What about Valerie?" Nyxekate and Valerie were soulmates, lovers. But Hecate now is aromantic and has no interest in any relationships. When I brought this up to Yvee, she decided that it would be fun to have it be an unrequited love. For Valerie to love this mare who will never love her back.
Nyxekate/Hecate is an immortal goddess, and our plan from the get go was always to have Valerie go from a mortal to becoming immortal through powerful magic so that they could spend eternity together. With this change, their story has changed. Now it's that Hecate had already blessed/cursed Valerie with immortality before her tragic accident that ultimately forced her to be reincarnated and lose most/all of her memories from her previous life. For centuries, Valerie was left all alone thinking that her love was gone forever. Then one day, she managed to encounter the new Hecate and immediately knew who she was. But with the amnesia and centuries having already passed, Hecate was not the same mare she knew long ago. Some in this situation would have given up and moved on, but not Valerie. Now she is essentially Hecate's shadow, following her wherever she goes. They gave vows saying that death would do them part. But since neither has technically died, Valerie honors her vow and never parts. Hecate is pretty annoyed that this mare she has no memory of is claiming to be her soulmate, but over time she will accept her presence and they become friends. But this version of Hecate will never love her. And this breaks Valerie's heart every day.
