Thanks for the compliment! Glad to bring more pony to your life. Personally, I prefer Lyra in terms of background ponies, but Octavia is pretty good. One of the few characters with a characterization I actually like and find reasonable.

Lyra is cool too, there is just to many bg ponies to choose between. Now they have thrown Moon Dancer at us.

I considered her a secondary pony, being that she plays more of a significant role and has a distinct, canon personality. There is a difference between the two, although it might be difficult.
