He is described to be a cold and forbidding king in the original novel. Although it is hard for me to tell the good in him in English...But I believe he is a great king for his forest, who led the Silvan to rebuild their home again and again. And also he is such a great father, who brought Laegolas up and asked his only son to be a membership of the journey.

Yes, in The Hobbit he was quite a mean guy, wasn´t he? xD
I think he didn´t ask his son. Legolas decided on his own to join the fellowship without asking his daddy. Or Thranduil wanted him to do so to at least have one of his tribe near to the ring.

WOW, too many secrets XDDDD
Yes you are right, Laegolas made the decision by himself. But there was also a formal permit from King Thranuil, for Laegolas is not only the son of Thranduil, but also the prince of Mirkwood. Why he allowed his only son to foward on the journey puzzles me...
I hope there is pure love between this father and son, for both of them are elves who are given the kindest hearts all over the world T_T

Thranduil is a strange guy, isn´t he? He is so different from all the other elves xD
Compared to Celeborn or Elrond..
I think he loves his son nevertheless. I mean, he is the only one of his family that is still alive, right?
Though I wonder what happened to Legolas´mother.

Indeed Thranduil is not as same as Celeborn and Elrond, and I think perhaps the reason is the different experience of their young age.
Thranduil had to fight for his forest alone after his father died. And there is no such a magic ring for him to rely on.
But Celeborn married Galadriel and them own the Nenya, their son-in-low Elrond own the Vilya. They could take care of each other.
And yes, who is Legolas's mother is a mystery. Who's Thranduil's mother is also unknown. A family filled with mysteries XDDDDDDD
Thank you for talking to me so long, it's so nice to meet you >3<

Yeah, thats true. I think he had a hard time back then .__.
It seems he even lost his wife, didn´t he? Or is she just not mentioned in the books?
But it shows you how much even an elf can be changed, right? xD
Ahh, but I don´t like Galadriel. I think when I had the chance to stand in front of her I would faint because of her greatness xDD
But in the movies and books she is just such an uninteresting character! And Haldir died QQ
The only thing that made Lothlorien interesting.
Ahaha, you´re welcome for talking. I could talk the whole day xD
There are sooo many words in my head that still want to be said °A°)
( little creepy, ne? )
But I think its kinda difficult to find people for talking on deviantart .__.)

When talking about Thranduil's wife, someones believe that she died in the the passed battle, and the others suppose she might leave to Mman. Anyway, it seems she is just NOT IMPORTANT. Poor little Leagolas (p・_q)
Galadriel is too far for me, and sometimes the strange expression on her eyes will frightend me T_T
And, yes, Haldir, he donated his endless life to the men and the whole world. He is the bravest soldior of Lothlorien T_T
I cannot wait to watch the following 2 movies of The Hobbit. I expect more elves, especially the father and son of Mirkwood will appear on the screen >_<

Legolas is grown up in a totally manly house :,D
But he is a prince.. so it has to be okay. I absolutely love it how arrogant he can get.
Yeah, me too. She is just.. scary. And not even as pretty as Sam claimed she would be ò_ó
I´m very curious about Thranduil *__*)
I love how Peter Jackson made him. He is a genius *O*
