Ah, the only true way of doing it is through the levels histogram, make sure what you want pure black IS pure black on there. Apply the settings then do a levels again and move the middle slider around to brighten it up just to see what it would look like on a brighter monitor but don't apply it.
As for macs... unless you're showing a client or someone in particular who has a mac the photos, don't worry too much about it. Out of the 90,000 visitors I had on my site, which is a decent overall and unbiased range I suppose, 92.8% use windows and 5.5% use macs, which is one hell of a rift. On the internet you need to cater to the most common user, it's only sensible.

mmh like the idea with the bubble but the skin looks too dead for me (too white)

The de-saturation was a great choice for htis one, it gives it a sort of fantasy feeling such as visions of past memories or whimsical days past as a child.
Observation: there seems to be a box, and some other un-identified thing in the bacground above and to the right of her head. Though her expression and the main focal point (Alex) is captivating enough to keep your eyes locked on her and not wander around the picture so much as I. I'm just here to give you praise on what you did well and help you better your shots by pointing out a few potentially displeasing elements, though if you do think about it, thiscould seem like a candid shot with her just messing around with bubbles and you right there with your cam out as always hehe.
