Hey! I'm about to comic out my first big fight scene and I got linked to this tutorial. It is very helpful but I've got some other questions that have been giving me trouble. I hope you don't mind me picking your brain
1) How much do you need to include to make a fight understandable? For example, at the start of the fight, A grabs B from behind then B throws A over her shoulder. I'm an animator so I drew out the key frames . However, if I included every one of those doodles in my comic, there would be waaaay too many panels. The fight would last forever! I know how important reaction shots are but, when things are moving fast, how much is too much and how much is too little?
2) What sort of panel layout best communicates the movement of a fight? I'm usually fairly straight forward with my panel layout but, whenever I try draw out my fight, I feel like the simplicity of my panel layout is undercutting the movement of the characters. I tried something more energetic for the start of my fight and I love the extra UMF if adds but I'm worried that, if I did that sort of thing too much, it could overwhelm the actual fight.
I took martial arts lessons for years and I'm an action junkie so I'm not worried about coming up with moves but these technical things have been giving me all sorts of trouble. You'd be my hero if you could help me get all my ducks in a row.

Well, the tip I can give you is: Watch action-movies. Creating a great Manga is more like... making a movie rather than posting picture after picture. Looking at movies, you usually zoom in and out, leading the watcher via camera through the scenes, following either one of the characters, focused on him/her or watching the fight from an outside-position.
Paneling works the same. You can draw scenes that are 'ununderstandable' if it matches the panelflow. So for example if you are following one chara, you can draw action and reaction at the same time, not having to draw the 'hit' itself, but what results out of it. You get what I mean?? ;;;;; Imagine the character getting hit. Maybe the moevemnt of the oponent is too swift for him to follow. You only have to draw the frames he realizes that way...
For panels, maybe this helps
[link]
The part on the bottom with the 'borders'.
A fight looks best if the main-frames are 'open' and pics as for example the character's faces are paneled. -> Action with lots of movement without or only few borders, panels that show a hit, faces, etc, with broders ^^
