I know some of you may be thinking "Wait, didn't James Farr have Yoshi as Ray and Sonic as Winston in his specials? Why switch the roles?" Well, the reason being is Yoshi makes way more sense being Birdo's uncle than Sonic does.

Poor gang. While they play minor roles, other lesser known video game characters are taking their place.
Wish the real movie had the original cast still played old parts and THEN introduce the girls as NEW generation of Ghost Buster.

No, it's based on the Ghostbusters reboot.
An animator on YouTube named James Farr made 2 videos that retold the stories of the first 2 GB movies with Mario & Sonic characters, and I've been making pics based on how I think one based on the third movie's animation would be cast if he ever made it.
In this the cast from the original animations are in their cameo roles, just like how the original GB cast did in the reboot.
