It kind of seems like the drawing's portraying the Three Cheers-era MCR trying to slip away, but the Black Parade-era MCR not wanting to let it go.
Which is cool, because they always play some stuff from 3CFSW after all their BP stuff at shows, and it seems they have the same idea.
