Description
This is my first Medieval Tutorial, it's on swords - it will teach you how to poperly draw any battle ready (real, not fantasy) sword and inspire you to do a fantasy sword. It contains information about who wields what, i mean you wouldn't want to draw a grosse messer in the hand of a king, information about dimensions and proportions and more important things. It will teach you all you need to know about swords and how to properly draw them.No matter what program you use, you will need this tutorial if you aren't very experienced with sword drawing, and i have to say it contains some stuff few people know about....soooo enjoy !!Only contains swords that dont look alike, for example i have only inserted the scimitar and not his "siblings", the shamshir and the tulwar.
Feel free to note me if you need more directions on this matter.
More Medieval Tutorials soon to come.

Thanks very much for making this, very informative. Myself and a friend have recently spent some time discussing how a scimitar would be worn. You say hung by a sash, that would attach to the end of the pommel right?
Also, concerning the scimitar, if its wrapped up in cloth when its on your back, you have to unwrap it before it's ready for use, like there's no quick way to draw the blade?
Thanks again,

The unrapping takes like 1 second, as it's is not a complicate wrapping, it's just to protect the blade from the sand. Plus, the scimitar is a battle sword, not the kind you would use in a tavern brawl (medieval warrios rarely carried just one wepon). Further more, when you ride into battle your sword in unsheathed from the beggining...

Hmm, fair enough. I had thought of a warrior having a Scimitar as a secondary weapon to something like a pike for infantry or a lance for cavalry. If the 2-handed weapon broke in battle, you'd need to quickly get your sword out.
Thanks very much for the information though!

If your wepon breakes in combat, you have close to 0 chances to unsheathe the second one )))

It was an interesting tutorial but I wonder one thing: I have seen several examples of an extremely large sword(in reality) that looks like one could cleave a horse with it. Do you know the name of this type of sword?

Well, it could have been a Claymore or a TwoHander(Zweihander)... i think they are also called Great Swords or something like that... could also be a Dai-Katana if we aren't talking Europe. Such swords can be as long as 2 meters or more.
What shape did the blade have ?

umm, as far as I can remember it was quite long and broad. It looked like an extremely heavy weapon fit for a bodybuilder. Long handle and no handguard to speak of. On the edge of being so large it almost would serve as an aerodynamical club rather than a sword.

So...are you sure that sword was battle ready ? Or was it just ornamental ?

i think it was battle-ready. I saw a guy on a weapons-show wield it once and it looked usable, he cleaved something quite large but I can't remember what
I think it originally was used to cleave both rider and horse in the same ?slash?(not sure of the correct word).

A ".rar" file is an archive. You can open it with winrar - you can download the program free right here ---> [link] .After you have installed it, just double click the .rar file and then select "extract" from the menu that pops up.After "decoding" the .rar file you can view the files with any picture viewer... hope you get it right
