n.p.
Perhaps the right bone to attach the head is "head neck lower" and not "head neck upper" ... I dont know which models you have exactly used for the combination.

Sure, you can use Blender, but without experience, you can make many misstakes. Blender is not easy. Who say this?
I’m not going to lie to you and tell you it’s easy; Blender is notoriously hard to learn. But if you have the patience and heart for digital art and visualization, then you’ll be surprised at what you can do after a few months.
Below you will find five ways I think are the best to learn Blender and to become a better artist. www.blendernerd.com/5-practica…
The best tutorial 'How to make XNALara Blender Combinations' is this xnaaral.deviantart.com/art/XNA… I thinks you have use it. But this methode works only if you see no difference between the armature and the mesh topology and size.
But there is a missing issue:
What happens if the models dont have the same armature?
About the missing colors:
If you copy the original file in the desktop, then Blender cannot find the texture images. Import always the .mesh.ascii file from original data folder in Blender.
