Description Some beautiful potted lillies that I bought a few weeks ago. Managed to photograph them before they died. I might plant them out in the garden in the summer so they can come up again next year.

A Beautiful flower superbly captured. Sadly I have to be very careful having them in or near the house: we had an elderly cat who decided that it would be a good idea to chew one. As you probably know, lilies are hugely toxic to cats, thankfully I got her to the vet in time but it meant her having charcoal pumped into her and being on a drip for two days. We now have two young cats and I am quite paranoid about this beautiful flower.Β

These were bought already potted for indoors. I do have some in my pots in the garden that come up each year. I was fortunate that none of my cats ever bothered with them. I'm glad to hear that your cat recovered.

I think Domino (the cat) had more than nine lives. The lily incident was back in 2009. She eventually ran out of lives in 2011 but she was 20 ...!!Β

I had a total of 6 cats. One went and made a home somewhere else but still comes each day to be fed now that the others have all died. I lost my last one in November. She was nearly 20 and had outlived the others.

Did you have all six cats at the same time or are they pets from over the years? Our present two are numbers 6 & 7 but they never encountered any of the first five! Neither did 3,4 and 5 meet numbers 1 & 2!! it sounds flippant giving them numbers but they were all dearly loved and sadly missed. I cried buckets when each one died.Β

I had my dog just after I got married so she was already here when my children were born. When she died it left a big gap as I'd always had a dog then my horses then I got married and had dogs again.
One of the cats of a friend of mine had kittens a few months after Callie died so I agreed to have one. That was Tia. I took the boys to see them when they were 3 days old. They talked me into having her sister as well as she was the only one left in the litter to be homed. That was Tammy. A few months after that someone told us of a badley treated kitten so we rescued her. The vet said she was older than we thought and would never grow full size due to her being malnurished. She did and we called her Tessa. The year after having those 3 we then had a male kitten decide to make his home with us. We called him Tyson.Β  (notice the pattern with the 'T's)
A few years after we'd had those 4 my son brought a kitten home one night that he'd found in the park. It was only about 4 weeks old and shouldn't have left his mother but Joe was worried the foxes would have him. We called him Taz. Two weeks after that, a little ginger kitten I'd agreed to have came to us. He was Troy. So I had 6 cats all together. Troy wanted to dominate the house and so Taz left and made a home somewhere else although we would still see him about.

TessaΒ  sadly died of a brain tumour when she was 12. The year after that, we got up one morning and Tyson had died overnight. Probably his heart.
Tia then died the following year. She had poor treatment from the vets and in the end I couldn't see her suffer anymore so I had her put down.
When Troy got to 12 he had tumours in his liver and so we lost him.
Tammy died last year and was almost 20. She was the only cat I hadn't really wanted to begin with and she outlived them all.
Taz comes back everyday now to be fed. I won't let him make his home here though as it wouldn't be fare on his new owners.

My husband and I still walk through the front door and expect to be greeted with a meow and we still get up thinking we must feed the cat.
Yes the house is empty without pets and I do miss them terribly.... but I won't go through all that again.
I think of my animal time asΒ  'My Animal Family' as it spanned for over 30 years. Now it's mine and my husband's time. No kids or pets to have to worry about or rush back to for feeding. We can now go on holidays or away for the weekend.

Quite a houseful!! We too had name themes going on: first two were Sheena and Sheba. They were followed by Domino, Cleo and Gizmo. When Gizmo, the last of the three died early in 2012 we debated whether to have more. Domino had died aged 20 and in her last few years we had been backwards and forwards to the vet with ailments such as pancreatitis, hyperthyroidism and a sudden spate of nosebleeds not to mention the eating a lily incident and I pointed out to hubby that if we had kittens who lived to a similar age we could be doing endless trips to the vet when we were 80!! Sense did not prevail as we just couldn't contemplate that empty house feeling and we adopted two older kittens; they are called Amber and Shadow. Amber was going to be called Willow but when we got her she just wasn't a Willow. So our name themes went somewhat awry!

I understand what you mean about having trips to the vets in later years. I just wouldn't be able to afford it.
