I use PMDEditor which allows to edit models in .pmd or .pmx (in the newest version) format. In the beginning, it's not very easy because this application is in Japanese but there're a lot of tutorials on DA, so if you want you can learn how to use it, too.

The older versions of MMD don't support textures in .png format. Try to install the new version or change the textures to .bmp.
