If you Google his name you will learn all you need to plus no doubt get some samples of his work. But yes he was an old G1 artist. One of the most iconic from back in the day. He had a real blocky style that used alot of solid black shadows which is why people are making the comparison with your stuff... oh and i mean blocky in a good way as opposed to that being a negative criticism.
Definitely try and find some of his stuff online.

I must say, OUCH on broadside's behalf, that looks rather painful, never knew tidal wave had such an epic punch, all he did most of the time was stand there and shoot missiles
