Shortly after the Great Schism, displeased with the way both the UEG and ASH had started governing, as well as seeing the flaws in the Dark Ascendant Empire that they were at war with, he set up a conspirator group under the name of 'The Syndicate', later the Syndicate was recruited into the larger secret organisation named 'Umbra' which aimed to bring down all factions of the galaxy, and rule it by fear.

He joined the GIS to gain respect and a name within the Galaxy, and gain enough trust to be given access to the most secretive operations in existence. Under the codename of 'Helmsman' and part of GIS Agent Adam Warby's crew.

When the crew was defeated by Agent 019 of Dark Intelligence, Helmsman went back to the Syndicate to speed up its efforts and bring an end to the war and make it easier for Umbra to take control.

Tyler wanted it all. He wanted money, he wanted victory, he wanted wine, women, and riches. And Doctor Herrod Wolffe would have granted him all that and more, if only Helmsman didn't die.......
