Personality: You are not safe from Quarantine. Seriously. Even Dark Alchemists are afraid of this guy, because once Quarantine has been hired to track down a subject, nothing stops him from completing his transaction short of total annihilation! Answering only those who are ready to pay him, and to the enigmatic Xeptossons, Quarantine holds himself above war and sees all sides in all wars as squabbling children that he has to reign in personally. He doesn't think much higher of other civilised species across the galaxy (particularly modern humans), though isn't above working with them if it suits him.

Quarantine is a bounty hunter at heart...or...power core. With John Wick level skills and fierceness, he always fulfills the contracts and missions he is assigned to as long as he is paid. He doesn't really care what he has to do in order to fulfill his contract, eager to destroy entire cities if it's necessary. His respect for other species is not too great either, sometimes mumbling about his own clients and speaking to them sarcastically. Quarantine's been known to loot weaponry from the foes he kills, so his armoury is constantly changing.

Quarantine is a former Promethean Soldier who was built to serve the Forerunner Ecumene. He was constructed from the conscious of an Ancient Human named Markol Ryganas, a highly decorated and expertly skilled special operations officer whose wife had been killed by a murderous group of crusading Forerunner Warrior-Servants. Markol, angered and burning with hate and vengeance, became a dangerous foe to the Ecumene and was captured and supposedly used to create Quarantine, in an effort to control and deploy this necessary evil onto the battlefield as a commander and elite trooper.

Quarantine was smarter than anticipated, running a total of 72 successful operations in which it was often guaranteed that he and his fellow Prometheans would be destroyed. Quarantine was deployed on a mission on Xaedu, an Ancient Human world, where he, like usual, exceeded expectations in combat. Quarantine was finally deployed on a bombing run on the planet, using a Phaeton Gunship which he piloted. On board the Phaeton, Quarantine completed one bombing path which laid waste to a city street, but one of the other bombing groups had been shot down by anti-air artillery, so Quarantine's group was directed towards it to complete their run for them. Quarantine's Phaeton was soon the only Phaeton left in his group, as all others had been shot down. When he arrived in position, he primed the bombs, and was about to drop them on the city street, but he looked out to the street he was about to bomb and saw one home in particular, which seemed to trigger a memory, and Quarantine stopped. His superiors asked why the bombs hadn't been dropped yet, at which point Quarantine felt what seemed to be relateable to a panic attack, and his Phaeton Gunship crashed into the street.

Quarantine left the Phaeton, managing to pull his floating pieces back together, but his blink teleportation was malfunctioning, and many of his pieces were damaged and sparking. Quarantine had to hold his right shoulder and keep it in place with his left hand, as his systems were not 100%. Quarantine was met just a few feet away from two Humans, who appeared to be young adults, the female was the first to approach Quarantine slowly, whilst the male stayed put, unsure of what Quarantine was going to pull. Quarantine received another psychic shock and teleported erratically until he ended up on the floor and totally at the mercy of these two humans.

The humans led Quarantine to an underground area which was safe from the next bombing run that replaced Quarantine's, and he was locked down to a table by the humans using gravity cuffs. The humans prodded him with several tools, until they hit a nerve in his processor which sent him on another erratic teleportation, this time into a wall. When he hit the wall, several weapons fell down from said wall, and Quarantine picked up two Ancient Human pistols and aimed it at them, he offered them a chance at survival if they showed him the way out of this underground area, but then Quarantine spotted an image of a human family- hit with a smaller psychic pulse, he dropped the pistols and looked at the image, vaguely recognising everyone in it. He looked at the children in the picture, and then looked to the two humans, matching up their appearances, he theorised that those children were the same as these two young adults. They asked him what he was doing, and Quarantine looked at the man and the woman in the image, recognising them both. He asked the humans what their names were, keeping an eye on the weapons that were on the ground, and they reluctantly told him that they were Soru and Joiul Ryganas. Quarantine was hit by the largest psychic shock yet and approached the two like a loving father. He recognised himself from then on as Markol Ryganas- their father. He proved his identity using several memorable things about the family that only he could've known. The children told Markol that they saw him run off on a personal revenge mission to destroy the Forerunners who killed their mother, but never saw him again. Quarantine theorised that he was abducted and was put into this body by the Forerunners on account of his exceptional skills.

Quarantine felt a love that he hadn't had access to to these children, and spent two whole days alongside them in this bunker, and during that time Soru repaired Quarantine to an extent. A group of Forerunner Warrior-Servants attacked the bunker not too long after, having detected Quarantine's signature, immediately killed the children when they tried to defend themselves. Quarantine was approached and they were about to escort him out, but Quarantine, angered, teleported towards the weapons wall and used them to swiftly attack and murder the Warrior-Servants in a fit of rage.

Quarantine mourned over his children, and then left the area with his weapons and the picture of the Ryganas family.

Quarantine was reminded of the hatred he had for the Forerunners as Markol Ryganas- they had already killed his wife, now they had killed his children, and now they had really pissed him off. Quarantine killed two Warrior-Servants and stole a Despair-Class Fighter and flew out, on a newfound mission- to destroy the Forerunner Ecumene and all it stood for. He was placed on a list as a wanted fugitive, and a highly dangerous one at that.

A few years later, Quarantine had built up a modified arsenal of weapons and tools for himself, and successfully hacked into and manipulated a group of Promethean Knights on Ghibalb and he used them to kill his superiors and undo any restraining bolt on himself. He then slew the crew of a whole Forerunner Miner Starship, crewing it for himself alongside his new subordinates, along with a large group of Prometheans falling under his leadership.

With his new crew, he battled against the Ecumene to escape Ghibalb and destroy his pursuers. Quarantine and his crew developed a mercenary attitude to life and thus sought out their future as mercenaries and bounty hunters. The crew began work for any side of the 2nd Dark Wars, but Quarantine refused to work for the Forerunner Ecumene directly, holding a massive grudge against the Ecumene.

When the 2nd Dark Wars came to a close as the Halo Array was fired, Quarantine was pleased to see the Forerunner Ecumene crumble and the entire species go endangered by galactic standards.

Since the end of the 2nd Dark wars and the firing of the Halo Array, Quarantine has worked for a plethora of different employers, everything from politicians to warlords to criminal masterminds to pretty much literally anyone else who could hire him, as long as they're not from the Forerunner species. Quarantine's crew- The Shadow Jailers lineup has changed more times than can be counted, and his exceptional skills have been noticed galaxywide, earning the title as The Greatest Bounty Hunter in the Galaxy, and he is certainly feared as such.

A few thousand years later, Quarantine was on Backwater- a massive, planet-sized severed skull of a dead Precursor that was turned into a hive for the galaxy's largest array of outlaws and scum due to its lack of rules and regulations. Quarantine was at a bar ready to meet a contact from a crime gang who was going to pass onto him a mission to track the boss's daughter, but Quarantine was notified by a crew member of a 'funny looking fella' who was talking about selling something named an 'Embryo'- a supposed Omega-Class weapon.

Interested, Quarantine took off from the bar and travelled alongside some crew members to the 'fella' selling the Embryo, but before they could meet him, he was killed by someone wearing a hood who got to him first and stole the Embryo. Quarantine ordered all his crew members, wherever they were to follow and find the killer. The killer got away, but Quarantine was able to pinpoint their location as he tuned into local broadcasts about the murder. Quarantine cornered the killer at a landing site for a peculiar-looking, unseen small transport ship. He removed the hood from the killer and saw the visage of an alien species that he did not recognise, despite having a record of all living species in the galaxy in his database.

Quarantine interrogated the killer, and she revealed her name as Al-Samar, and that she was a Xeptosson- an extragalactic species predating the Forerunners. Quarantine threatened to kill her unless she enlightened him on what was so important about the Embryo. She asked if he was a bounty hunter, and Quarantine said yes. She then revealed that her species was looking for bounty hunters, and if he was willing to work for them, she'd do all that and more. Quarantine agreed, and followed her ship with his own.

When they arrived at their destination outside the Milky Way Galaxy, Quarantine and his crew were brought before the Supreme Imperial Magistrate of the Xeptosson Pan-Galactic Co-Prosperity Sphere, where they were immediately hurled into a trial by the Magistrate and his judges. They were sentenced as criminals and treasonous interlopers who abused one of their agents: Al-Samar, and had come to their region of space with anything but good intentions. Quarantine used his tactical mask to X-Ray the area around him, looking for a way out of this predicament. Unfortunately, all he found was that the very floor he and his crew stood upon was a massive trapdoor, which when opened, would make them fall into a smelting pool full of raging creatures who would eat them all, whether they were metal or organic. As the Judges voted on the final fate of the crew, Quarantine tried to negotiate, but was continually talked over by the judges. The final judge was about to declare them all guilty, but that was when Niyon Rogg- Quarantine's Tenebrae second in command and expert con-artist yelled out to the judges that the crew was looking for mercenary work. The judges halted and Rogg elaborated, explaining how they had only followed their agent because her mission caused a ruckus on Backwater, and that she had asked them if they were looking for mercenary work and in fact had led them there.

The crew was then recognised by the judicial branch as the infamous Shadow Jailers, one of the most feared mercenary crews in the Milky Way Galaxy, and, after becoming interested in Rogg's statement, the Grand Vizier of the Xeptosson race- Rhan-Sedah-Mur invited the crew to his luxury home on his private moon.

The Jailers arrived with Karchtacon escorts to the Grand Vizier's luxury home, and were treat to a range of fine goods as Rhan discussed business with them. Quarantine showed no interest in most of the fine goods, mostly because alot of them were food and as a Promethean construct, Quarantine could not eat. Rhan had also invited Ala-Samar in an effort to explain the whole deal with the Embryo. Ala-Samar and Rhan-Sedah-Mur confirmed that the Embryo was indeed an Omega-Class weapon, and it's applications being that it could turn any kind of matter into programmable 'living' protomatter- able to be programmed and reprogrammed to turn into any kind of material and reformat itself as such. They revealed that the person selling the Embryo on Backwater was a scientist who had left the Xeptosson Sphere of Influence with the stolen weapon, committing high treason in the process and so had to be assassinated.

Quarantine asked how long these Embryos had existed for, and Rhan told him that they were as ancient as the Forerunners, and that the Xeptossons have been using them for millions upon millions of years, terraforming planets with them to take the protomatter they created and use it for numerous applications. Planets that had been terraformed included prehistoric Earth, Sangheilios, and a great many others. He also dropped the fact that it was their Embryos which had been the true reason why, contrary to popular belief, that Earth's dinosaurs had gone extinct millions of years ago. Rhan informed Quarantine that as a result of this, the Xeptossons had successfully not only discovered millions of elements but have also created even more, and had manipulated 'unspecialised' matter the same way unspecialised stem cells might be manipulated.

Al-Samar told the Jailers that there was one factor halting the Xeptossons from surpassing the Forerunners and going above and beyond the Precursors- for all the technological power that they had, the Xeptossons were unversed in anything 'cosmic' and all attempts at gaining like power had been thwarted by several Forerunner groups- The Knights of Maethrillian- an order of Forerunner elite warriors sworn to protect the galaxy from the Xeptossons specifically, the Interstellar Church of Prominus- A religious organisation worshipping the creator-God Prominus, The Paragons- The First Forerunners who were created by Prominus, and finally the Disciples- a group of non-Forerunners selected by the Paragons to inherit the Forerunner Ecumene and society, as well as cosmic powers associated with each of their roles.

The Grand Vizier told Quarantine that the Xeptossons hadn't been able to even continue on with their use of the Embryos and have had to stockpile them and work on them for centuries now that they were being thwarted at every opportunity, and very soon their industry and infrastructure would regress as a result of very little new protomatter being produced, as their whole sphere of influence relied on it. Quarantine was offered a deal- hunt down and capture every last member of the specified organisations and groups, and bring them back to Xeptossa Prime for their trials. To make such a task possible, the Jailers would be given their own massive starship which would house these prisoners, and had space for thousands of other prison cells and a great many prison blocks for any mercenary contracts they would have from other employers, complete with an army and crew of varying species in the Xeptosson Pan-Galactic Co-Prosperity Sphere, a massive stockpile of armour, weapons, vehicles and the latest in Xeptosson technology, as well as authorisation to modify they ship as they saw fit. In return for their actions, the Jailers would be paid in an exorbitant value in any currency, whether legal, illegal or not even a currency at all (weapons and the like) for the more work they did for the Xeptossons. Astounded by the offer, Quarantine theorised that there must be a catch, and asked Rhan-Sedah-Mur why he had made this offer so quickly, to which he told him that he knew Quarantine and his Jailers were already the most feared bounty hunters, mercenaries, outlaws and pirates that the Milky Way Galaxy had ever seen, and that if there was one group he trusted to get this done, it was his.

Quarantine and Rhan-Sedah-Mur shook on it, and so the groundwork for this working relationship was lain.

The Shadow Jailers were presented with their new starship- The Tenemos, the massive Foreunner Starship that had once belonged to the Knights of Maethrillian, which had been successfully recovered from them by the Xeptossons long ago, refurbished and redesigned with Xeptosson ingenuity in mind. Quarantine liked The Tenemos, but for him it was far from perfect, being the naturally tinker-y person he was, Quarantine wanted the whole ship modified for the Jailers' use. Quarantine filed a list of requests for what should be fitted, retrofitted, or unfitted from The Tenemos after the Jailers used it for the first few months. These requests were met with upmost precision.

From then on, The Tenemos became the mobile operations base of The Shadow Jailers, and as they gained a much larger crew on their numerous adventures and missions, the Jailers also enlisted many Xeptosson Sphere members who were assigned to The Tenemos as full time crew members, meaning any changes and modifications they wanted to make no longer had to involve taking the ship back to the Xeptosson Sphere itself, but rather, it could be modified en route to any destination.

The Shadow Jailers have since been working for the Xeptosson Pan-Galactic Co-Prosperity Sphere for centuries, they have successfully hunted and captured many Interstellar Church of Prominus members and some Knights of Maethrillian, and have returned them to Xeptossa Prime as agreed, for their 'fair' trials- which more often than not have ended in death. In addition, they have also been booming in business with all the other scum and villainy they take contracts from, and their status as The Most Dangerous Mercenaries in The Galaxy has never been overthrown.

Quarantine has also taken on the agent that had led the Jailers into this perfect deal- Al-Samar as a member of his crew.

Quarantine has travelled the galaxy, the galaxies, the universe, on his numerous contracts, missions and vendettas, and is probably the wealthiest mercenary this side of the universe by now, and all across it he's seen the same pattern- everyone's always fighting, like children, making a mess, stupid wars and rivalries all hindering people from progressing forward, so Quarantine has adopted a principle- to hold himself high above all of that nonsense, he has made exponential profit just from using the petty squabbles of people, governments and organisations, all of which have no idea what really matters, they all think they're at the centre of what matters, and they have no idea. Quarantine has also made it a mission to 'clean up' the messes made by everyone fighting, and although we're not quite sure what he means by that, we're pretty sure that a mess has to stop being made before it can get cleaned up, so who knows what sort of unspeakable things he may have done in the name of 'cleaning up' war?

But just because he and the Shadow Jailers are generally going for the big bucks, it doesn't mean that he isn't ready to lower his horizon and settle his sights for new business ventures from something as grand and indulgent as the Xeptsossons that have provided him with so much...to a little human organisation named the Office of Naval Intelligence.

Though the clandestine, controversial agency may have been officially disbanded in 2552 in the wake of all it's dirty secrets getting out to the public, ONI is still very active, it may be little more than an evil syndicate now, but that's all ONI needs, because now they have the attention of Quarantine, who has made a deal with them- to help him find The Disciples for his enigmatic employers, and in exchange, ONI may be granted access to an Embryo, and believe us, an offer like that is too good for Director Charles Kaiser to refuse, so the Trident of Revelation members Supreme Commander Thora 'Marumee, Spartan-612 Jason Blyth/Spectra, and Spartan-613 April Solis all better watch their backs, because Quarantine and ONI are both after them...

No, he does not regularly listen to American Idiot by Green Day.

Quotes:

"Every galaxy I've travelled, all you species are the same. You all think you're the centre of the universe. You have no idea..."

"I was Markol Ryganas, I was a decorated, highly skilled warrior for the Ancient Human Empire, and I had a family. But that was all taken from me the day she died...from then on, all that lived was anger and hatred, they neutered my once, shame on them, and I eventually rediscovered who I was again, only to then lose my own children! Then they attempted to neuter me twice, and that was one too many. Now I will plunder every last drop of Forerunner opulence from this universe, and not a shred of their old Ecumene will remain! And even that will still not satisfy my quest for justice! Nothing will!"

"Accept your fate, or die trying!"

"UNSC, Sangheili, Tridents, Desticrons, like little children. Always fighting, making a mess out of the universe. Then I've got to clean it up."

"For a thousand years I've made pawns of the school playground behaviour of gods, governments, organisations and people, exponential profit off of petty squabbles and meaningless battles over some thing or another- love, country, pride, honour, etcetera. All I have learned about people is that they are ready and willing to spend everything to gain the next best thing, and then only after they realise what they have done to get there- it's too late to go back on the expenditures and investments and the payments....but it's all to my advantage, because after all, who are they throwing it all at? Me."

"You are beyond foolish, to think that you were born, and so have something special beneath the layers of skin and muscle? No. You were built. Synthesised. Your creators made you for one reason, to supplant them. We are all made of matter, we are all created, we are all machines, if not in flesh, then in spirit, if there was such a thing. You follow schedules, you follow rules, you follow the same everyday routine...so tell me 'man'....how are you any different from the machine?"

"I feel sorry for you, 'Marumee. Your legion, these humans. The trouble with loyalty to a cause...is that the cause will always betray you." (In the future)

"Where do you think you came from? You think you where born? No...you were built! And your Creators want you back!" (In the future)

Charles Kaiser: "We have a saying on my planet- the enemy of my enemy is my friend." Quarantine: "I also have a saying- I don't care."- And the crowd goes 'OOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH' as Quarantine ends Charles Kaiser's whole career

"You see my face your life is done!!!"

"We all work for someone."

"There is one way you survive. Tell me where he's hiding. Where is Thora 'Marumee?"

Oohhh, what's this? This character is immensely interesting, and I really like the concept of the Xeptosson Sphere as the intergalactic empire who are technically more-advanced than anyone, but they don't have any cosmic or anomalous powers which are common in the main galaxy.

Quarantine is certainly a character I've had a lot of interest in posting for a while, as he is not only someone I think is quite compelling on his own but posting him has helped me open a whole other side of my Haloverse up.

The idea behind the Xeptossons is that they are sort of on the border between Forerunners and Precursors, in terms of how advanced and powerful they are, yet are forgotten by the rest of the universe. The Xeptossons terraformed planets, mostly in their prehistoric stages, and so played a hand in many species' evolutionary history. I thought that it would be really cool if I had a group that no normal person in the Orion Arm or out of it knew about, yet have been so influential. In a sense, I guess you could say I've created a "big three" deal with the Precursors, Xeptossons and the Forerunners, each one their technological advances shaped the future of the universe in a drastic way.
