Description Eons ago, Prominus (a name that translated to inventor) and Omikrus (a name that translated to undoer) were together the most powerful beings in the multiverse (and possibly the Omniverse), both godly, cosmic entities, they prefixed time and therefore were both around before the multiverse even began. They did not have forms as they were formless, though they were known to have particular symbols, shapes and even numbers as physical idols of themselves across different cultures. Prominus was often represented in the shape of a disc with eight curved arms somewhat resembling a flower and became synonymous with the number seven, whilst Omikrus was represented in the shape of sharp, dagger-like horns and became synonymous with the number six.

As Class-1 Multiversal Singularities, the two were completely unique- no other versions of them existed or could exist in the multiverse that was to come, not naturally at least. They were the only versions of themselves in reality and that was that. Being unbound by the laws of causality, neither Prominus or Omikrus can be said to have a beginning. Rather, they are emergent properties of even more fundamental "mathematical structures" that in turn underlay reality itself.

When the multiverse began, the two had purpose. Where Omikrus's purpose was Destruction and Chaos, Prominus's purpose was Order and Creation. While Prominus saw beauty in creation and found it sacred, Omikrus found it pointless, cruel and needing to end.

Omikrus had total control over the Cosmic force known as The Power Chaos, a force of pure entropy, destruction and death, whereas Prominus had The Power Genesis, a force of creation, life and nature. The two "siblings" had access to one another's respective powers, but Omikrus was not able to harness the Power Genesis to its full potential, and Prominus neither could fully bend the Power Chaos to its will.

In the allegorical story “The Parable of The Builder and The Breaker ”, The Builder created seventy-billion-trillion ‘torches’ to illuminate just one ‘field’. The Builder apparently spent six ‘days’ laying foundations, bricks and mortar day by day until a house was built. On the seventh day of each week, The Builder rested. On that same day, The Breaker would destroy what the Builder had made, be it the same house that had just been constructed or one from earlier on. Throughout this week, ‘cement, gravel and water’ mixed to create ‘concrete’. ‘Rats and mice’ wriggled between ‘imperfections’ and ‘fed’ on what was and what might have been, slowly degrading the integrity of the ‘house’. However, when ‘the rain’ came, ‘the buildings’ stood stout and tall, because of the foundations, and even when The Breaker demolished the work of The Builder, there would always be something left to rebuild from.

While laden with metaphor and open to interpretation, the story above seems to indicate that the universe is the ‘field’, the ‘torches’ are stars and the ‘cement, gravel and water’ mix to create the laws of physics and the forces binding reality together. ‘The Buildings’ are supposedly planets, star systems and civilisations whilst ‘rats and mice’ wriggling between the ‘imperfections’ could be interpreted as negative events occurring and ‘the rain’ being a great threat that unifies the people of the universe by tying them to a common struggle, and therefore they are able to rebuild together once they overcome them thanks to the ‘foundations’.

As such, it can be taken that The Way of Prominus, or “The Builder” emphasised that the point of existence was cooperation between intelligent beings, with the goal of creating "a beautiful city" where all entities may harmoniously coexist. Meanwhile, The Way of Omikrus or “The Breaker” claimed that existence was hollow and meaningless, filled with suffering and misery, which explains why the Builder’s creations were always destroyed.

Prominus began fulfilling its quest to fill the vast multiverse it had created with universes, galaxies, stars, planets and life. And so it did, creating beautiful works- it created extradimensional planes, cosmic singularities, the various afterlife dimensions, the laws of physics and all sorts of other concepts causal minds can only hope to understand. In order to bind the infinite universes, realities and dimensions together, Prominus created the interdimensional forces, energies and properties that would eventually become known as Magic. Its 'highest form' would become known as Neural Physics and very few would understand it in the future. It made it so all forms of life that would populate all of existence could learn to harness magic in order to become more in tune with the universe and ascend to new heights.

Prominus believed that this was the meaning of existence, to create and see creation in all its wondrous forms. Omikrus however, believed that everything created had to be destroyed. An idea that Prominus had to accept in order for these new realities to be kept in balance. Omikrus did not like anything its ‘sibling’ made. Every new universe, every dimension, every concept, galaxy, star, planet and species that was made was an insult to Omikrus as far as they were concerned and only added work for them. They hated them, it was in its very nature to. Often it destroyed its sibling's most thoughtful creations just so it wouldn't have to look upon them, justifying it by stating that it was simply keeping the universe in balance- Order and Chaos were inextricably linked, and therefore, both impeded on one another in an unending struggle for dominance, a struggle that would be forever ongoing. It only made sense that the two of them would do the same against each other too. Prominus however, was bored of that concept, and did not believe that things had to be that way between them- their own relationship with one another should not have been defined by the purposes they served.

Prominus often tried to ease Omikrus's hatred and disdain for all things by presenting them with Cosmic gifts- things it had created. The Chaos Bringer simply devoured them, each and every one of them, nothing it’s sibling could give would open their eyes to a different perspective. Prominus was often saddened by the fact they shared nothing in common besides their omnipotence. Regardless of its sibling's feelings, it continued to create, with the hope that if they were able to create something truly amazing and beautiful, their sibling would finally come around, and realise there was more to existence than destruction. Omikrus continued to see its prolonged existence as a burden. It hated it. Every moment was torture. It wanted nothing more than to be able to expire into the void and be rid of Prominus’ interference.

As the existential planes got larger and more light and innovation filled the multiverse, Omikrus's misery grew evermore. In the hopes of ending its misery, Omikrus eventually attempted to see its sibling's point of view, and took the time to take a physical form and go to the homeworld of a species Prominus had created to see and live among them for a day. Prominus was overjoyed to take its sibling on a tour of this world. Prominus showed Omikrus a planet of true beauty, a world where all creatures seems to live in perfect peace and harmony with one another. The effect this had on Omikrus was clear- it finally made the Chaos Bringer see Prominus’ point of view. For the duration of this tour, Omikrus saw the reason behind creation. Of what it saw- from the evergreen trees to the flowers which brushed against each other in the grass to the way the planet’s star illuminated the crystal blue oceans, it was amazed, and was quite regretful that they had been living in such a state of isolation and misery.

When Prominus showed Omikrus the sunrise from a view on a mountain, Omikrus was initially awestruck, but in the distance, it saw something that didn't seem quite right, at least, not for a world that was truly supposed to be this 'beautiful'. Prominus asked Omikrus what was bothering them, but the Chaos Bringer did not reply. It rushed towards the scene that it watched unfold, and it saw for the first time in anyone but itself and its sibling-conflict. It saw two nations of the planet bickering with one another. Observing their ‘diplomatic’ interactions, Omikrus discovered that it was over a relatively simple matter- a territorial dispute over whose ancestors settled where first. Omikrus’ sibling followed on, but failed to catch up as Omikrus zoomed across the borders of this 'perfect' world. It saw places where the people were left to fester in their sickness, it saw poverty-stricken towns and cities, it saw families in great pain, it saw fighting break out between groups daily, hearts breaking over the deaths of loved ones, it saw organisations lying about their true intentions before backstabbing the people who had enthroned them. Moving on from this world, it saw entire planets in that same star system thieving resources from one another, one species bullying another into signing a peace treaty which would’ve made them slaves, watched as friends murdered each other and powerful people used their status to satisfy their greed. Omikrus looked at it all, feeling disgust in it, and asked “What are these things?"

Prominus had by then returned to the centre of the universe where it rested and awaited for Omikrus’ return. Encountering several species who had ventured to this section of the universe, but were tired and their supplies had run thin. Prominus, feeling sympathetic, moved supplies like metal ores, garden worlds populated by vegetation and animals, and even fuel from an uninhabited star system in their direction, and spread them equally among the space inhabited by the different species who had ventured there together on their huge starships, but was confused and disappointed by their response. The different species soon, even after taking their fair share of supplies, began warring with each other over what remained. Eventually, they began to fight over the ‘share’ Prominus gave them too, each vying for supremacy over the resources. Prominus wanted to intervene and stop them, but feared its intervention would just make things worse.

Meanwhile, Omikrus was observing its own fair share of wars across galaxies- the death, the destruction, the total forsaking of all dignity engulfed entire civilisations- worlds burned to ash, bodies stacked high indiscriminate of guilt or innocence, and in time, whole star systems were left barren, and it made the Chaos Bringer rapt with horror.

Omikrus ventured back to the centre of the universe, confronting Prominus on these mortifying issues. It used the situation playing out with the people over resources as evidence that Prominus’ hope in the citizens of the universe was empty. Prominus stated that the beauty of the universe was the imperfection- the balance between chaos and order- the two of them, it could be said. It said that it had given the people of the multiverse all the tools they required to create the true perfection Omikrus had expected- all they had to do was do it.

Omikrus however, questioned why Prominus did not simply impose their will on the multiverse and use their power to force this harmonious world into existence. Prominus said that freedom was an important factor in this world, that it could not be up to them to decide the what mortals do for them, that it could not dictate how they lived their lives.

Omikrus argued that the people of the multiverse made the wrong choices- everything happened at the expense of someone else, and the result was suffering as the only constant. With Prominus trying to get Omikrus to accept that these consequences were what gave life meaning, Omikrus rejected Prominus’ delegation. Asserting that the individual people of the multiverse were all less than blips in time, comparing them to single drops in rain, a needle in a several stacks of hay, it concluded that existence was not just hollow and meaningless as it had once thought, but it was ruinous, oppressive, and ridden with cruelty. After Prominus asked Omikrus what they would do about it, The Chaos Bringer disowned Prominus as their sibling and vowed that the two would never be the same again until Prominus accepted that they had made a dark, eternal hell, one which Omikrus would ensure the destruction of.

The divide between the two was cemented as they introduced new laws to their own paracausality, freeing each other of their restriction to each other. Finally unshackled, Omikrus went on a cosmic rampage, destroying the civilisations warring for supplies at the centre of the universe, then all else it found, with the end goal of consuming reality itself and thus ending all suffering.

Prominus could not just sit back and watch its creations fade away into the Void, so it instead fought its sibling for eons. For billions of years the two battled, the tide turning more times than could be counted, a perfect stalemate, until one day, Omikrus decided to create their own servants. It imbued several members of many species with the Power Chaos, and made Faustian Pacts with others- namely the being Faust who it turned the whole race of into a species of magical entities. It did not matter who it conscripted for its war on existence- all became the first Heralds of Omikrus, and created armies of the undead from the worlds it razed for them to command. Prominus was close to losing hope in defeating them, for it was losing by a long shot thanks to Omikrus’ creation of the Heralds to assist them in their battle, and this pattern continued for millions of years until Prominus started to involve mortals themself in their fight.

Despite enlisting the help of the Precursor Infinite Empire, it soon became clear to Prominus that even the most advanced civilisation in the universe was not powerful enough to even attempt to contend with Omikrus’ Heralds and its armies of undead. Not ready to give up on the people and creatures of the multiverse that it had played a hand in creating, Prominus decided to create its own ‘Heralds’, but instead of imbuing members of different species with its Power Genesis like Omikrus had with its Power Chaos, it intended to create beings who could handle both the physical and psychological effects of the Power Genesis from scratch.

As such, Prominus created the first 13 Forerunners- a righteous species they believed would be one of their finest Disciples, a species that would later become one of the most well known species in the galaxy, but not always for the right reasons. These ‘Paragons’ as Prominus dubbed them, were Class-2 multiversal singularities, meaning they were more or less the same people in almost every universe no matter how different. Each held the responsibility of maintaining an integral part of the universe.

Prime-Knight-of-Divinity was the Leader of the Paragons and a warrior of light and righteousness. He was wielder of the Celestial Saber- a blade capable of unparalleled destruction. Prime-Knight was cast in the mold of Prominus themself, a warrior of great virtue and nobility who placed the greater good above all else. Though self-aware enough to not be a pompous leader to his sibling Paragons, he tended to take too much weight upon his shoulders, and his persistent conviction that he was always right made him difficult to deal with.

Valiance-and-Soul was a Master Artificer and creator of many of the Paragon's weapons and artefacts with the use of her mighty Forge. If she had any flaw, it was her fierce and angry temper that quickly flared up at any sign of injustice. She found joy in creation, which is why she was particularly close friends with Quintessential-Perfectionist-Weaving-Purity and Amalgamation-of-Knowledge-and-Innovation.

Sands-of-Time was the master, monitor and safeguard of time, which he could manipulate through the use of the Swords of Time and later a device named the Enigma of Time. His powers allowed him to traverse the multiverse at will, allowing Sands to track and record events across a countless number of realities. He often spoke in archaic terminology steeped in chivalry from an age long past, which led some to believe him to be little more than a doddering relic. Despite this disconnect, Sands-of-Time never forgot that it is the miracle of time that allowed the precious lives of all reality to continue and flourish across the multiverse.

Last-Words-of-Eternal-Song was the wise holder of the Reed, which he used to record the past, present and future in the coveted Book of Prominus as part of his role as the recordskeeper of the Paragons. Last-Words would also go on to become one of the select few in the universe who would have full, unlimited access to the Domain, where all knowledge is archived on another plane of existence that only a select few can access from its supercomputers.

Legion-of-Refined-Stars would become known as "The Paragon of Lies" for being a black-hearted, masterful and amoral manipulator. Though his artefact was notably the toxin loaded Nervi Darts which could give Legion insight into one's own mind and by extension, control minds, his real skill was his ability to bring others over to his way of thinking off his own carefully selected words.

Hunger-of-Dying-Worlds was a tactician among the Paragons, chiefly responsible for their coordination as an effective combat force. Hunger equipped herself with the Vertex Armour- A suit of impervious armour which forms around its user from a central shield/disk object.

Order-of-Fire-and-Water was dark, morally ambiguous, and not without secrecy. Order was master of entropy and undoing, investing his time into studying dark sciences and mystical arts. Out of all the Paragons, Order was the closest to their sworn enemy Omikrus, whom he has harnessed the powers of on numerous occasions purely for 'experimentation'. Whilst Prime-Knight-of-Divinity always told him that it would be his downfall, Order would reserve his application of the dark arts to the very end. Order beheld the Entropic Blaster, a Precursor device able to accelerate entropy by drawing power from a quasar's sound waves, a supernova's thermal energy, or a black hole's gravity.

Tempest-in-Humble-Form was the ethical conscience of the Paragons, and approached all things with a light heart. Though small in stature with the ability to shrink even smaller, Tempest was strong and had massive amounts of energy stores available at his beckon call, which he could share and distribute across his brother Paragons through use of the Echion Sphere, rumoured to be responsible for creating the Microverse.

Method-in-Madness was a student of the chemical and elemental structure of the natural world, aided by his Lenses, which allowed him to see further and deeper than anyone in both material and spiritual senses. As evidenced by his name, Method tended to be quite eccentric and to his brother Paragons, quite mad.

Wild-of-Dawn was a tribalistic, primitive and spiritual being of wilderness, beasts and the hunt able to view other places, souls, and even the afterlife through his three-faced Trikyn Mask. Wild was free spirited and was the least technologically inclined of the Paragons, preferring an almost tribal style of wares to his brothers and sisters. Wild-of-Dawn greatly cared for the survival of living creatures and was willing to go so far as committing acts of dubious legality to save lives.

The inspirational Wizard-of-Connections was known for his affinity for the creation of new elements and the study of different states of matter. But he was more importantly associated with connection and cooperation among people and things, and beheld the Spirit of Assembly- a device said to foster said cooperation and connection.

Amalgamation-of-Knowledge-and-Innovation was the joker of the Paragons, unpredictable and easygoing, and the first Mimic, able to shift his appearance into nearly anyone (or anything) he wished. Fascinated by change and mutability, Amalgamation was responsible for overseeing said attributes, particularly in celestial lifecycles.

Quintessential-Perfectionist-Weaving-Purity was a stereotypical daydreamer and perfectionist whose drive to express his ideas led him to become a scientist. His artefact was the Evolutionary Seed, able to create life and accelerate biological and genetic processes such as evolution.

The Paragons worked alongside the Precursors, studying under them and living among them as humble citizens of their empire, so that Prominus could assure their disciples’ humility as it was partially the egotism of many of the universe’s peoples that made Omikrus believe in their omnicidal goal and Prominus wanted the Paragons to embody a new start for the universe.

After preparing their whole lives for the fight against Omikrus, the Paragons took leadership roles in the Precursor Empire alongside its Empress Nuresh, and went to battle with Omikrus, its Heralds and its hordes of the undead with the Precursor army at their side. After a few more years of struggle, Prominus, the Paragons and the Precursors defeated their enemy and Omikrus’ being was split into three fractions which were banished to different, disparate locations at the edges of the multiverse.

But Prominus was weakened and devastated by the long war with Omikrus, and decided that it could no longer steward over the universe as they had before. Prominus, wanting their presence to always be with the people of the universe, created the Progenitor- an object imbued with its infinite godly power, moderated by a function which limited the amount of its power that could be accessed with a ‘recharge’ and ‘locking out’ system. Prominus entrusted the Precursors to the task of protecting the Progenitor, and the Paragons to steward over the Forerunner species that had just been seeded on a planet named Ghibalb whilst they developed and evolved into the evolutionary apexes the Paragons already were. Additionally, it designed the Halo Rings- an array of seven massive ring-shaped megastructures to be built in the event of Omikrus' return. The Rings, when activated by the Progenitor would, in Prominus' own words "call upon the might of all my angels" and each release divine winds omnidirectionally throughout the universe, cleansing all traces of Omikrus' presence. However, doing so would be as an absolute last resort for the people of the universe, as doing so would mean that Omikrus, and thus many of the concepts it represented that balanced the universe with those Prominus represented, would be gone and the future from then on would forever be uncertain.

Prominus designed innumerable variations of the Halo Rings, suiting each variation for a different kind of society depending on collective knowledge, culture and even technology tiers, meaning that even if all civilisations in the Galaxy were little more than tribal, they could still produce working Halo Rings, that said, the ones that had a higher chance of succeeding were those that could be made and properly completed by societies with high technology tiers. When asked by Prime-Knight-of-Divinity (Recounted in the Parable as the ‘Firstborn’) why Prominus did not create the Halo Rings themself, it said that the Rings were not only supposed to defeat Omikrus, but they had to be built by mortals to show Omikrus that mortals could heed its word and, when pulling together and finally discarding their petty squabbles, could truly make a difference and prove to Omikrus that there was meaning in existence. Hopefully in that event, Omikrus would finally see the light and abandon its quest of making all things void, meaning the Array would not even have to be fired.

If this quote from the Builder in The Parable of the Builder and The Breaker- “You’re the builders now- all of you. Remember that.”- is anything to go on, Prominus trusted the people of the universe to make the right choices and prove Omikrus wrong, and evidently bestowed the task of continuing to create upon them so they could truly be in charge of their own destinies and ‘creations’.

Prominus then split its own consciousness into separate pieces- one of which was shelled in a mysterious spherical monolith located near the centre of the Milky Way Galaxy.

(Well, I said you’d get literal clarification on things mentioned in The Parable of The Builder and The Breaker  eventually, and here it is. The origins of my Halo fanverse, told in the most literal way petty corporeal minds such as yours can hope to comprehend. This marks the official beginning of my entries into the full timeline of my Haloverse’s background. I hope you enjoyed this! If you’re wondering what those symbols are, if you check on the internet what the Forerunner symbols for numbers are, you’ll find that the top symbol is the number 7, whilst the bottom is the number 6. Meaningless right? Well, if you’re interested in numerology, you might know that 777 is described as a ‘perfect’ number representing God and all things holy, whilst 666, I’m sure you know regardless of if you know anything of numerology, is the Number of the Beast, or perhaps more notably, the Antichrist or the Devil’s number and is representative of evil and misfortune. Prominus and Omikrus here are represented by those two numbers, so you might ask: is my entire Halo fan universe based upon the numbers 6 and 7 getting into an argument about existence? Yes. It is.)
