Another Major Motoko Kusanagi fanart based on GITS SAC 2nd Gig.Currently I’m in a state of very worried of the GITS franchise. Why? Because I read that Hollywood was interested in making GITS version into a live action movie. Although it planned to be produced by Steven Spielberg with Laeta Kalogridis (Shutter Island) as a screenplay writer, it wasn’t enough to calm me. Western movies based on Japanese animation/games that released recently were terrible, but they keep coming back with a plan to create Akira, Battle Angel Alita and GITS. Dragon Ball was hell, and I heard that Tekken and King of Fighter were disaster. People are talking about Akira’s leaked screenplay and they hate it. I will cry in my bed if Hollywood is going to crush another, especially Ghost in the Shell…

Great pic. I don't have a problem with Hollywood versions of things as a rule. Sure they're mostly balls, but occasionally they get something right. It's not like they kill franchises. Tekken did suck in many ways, but parts of it were good, and they're still making Tekken games. Resident movies are a lot different to the games, but I really enjoyed Afterlife in 3D.

I still enjoyed RE live actions, mainly because I didn't play much of RE game series (there's one of my friends hated it, because he's RE fans). But when it comes to the series I enjoyed well in the first place, such as Dragon Ball, watching them in downgrade version has made me feel bad. I just don't want it happened with GITS...

news of its release just sent every DB fan into disarray and then after seeing the trailer we were all just like.... Nooooooo! haha!

America is a little too proud of their live-action stuff. Considering how Japan's live action is pretty ...... well, to put it bluntly, it sucks, and how we all have a little obsession with importing Japanese anime over to America and making it "better" in 'our' opinion, I'd say the chances are high.... However, it depends on how well they adapt it... If they replace it with random people and make Batou and Saito and all those people look WEIRD then yeah I'll hate it, but I have a small bit of hope inside me that they'll make things look genuine and do their best to keep the plot intact.
(Half of this is because I am desperate to see a Spanish Saito come into play)

I agreed about Japan live action, very few of them turned out good. Goemon or Basilisk were good, but it still need major visual retouch.
Hopefully if Hollywood really goes forward with the plan, they don't rely on the visual and that 3D technology that they proud of. I like Avatar, but it wasn't merely for its 3D awesomeness.
Just keep the story great, and if they refer on Nolan's Inception way of story, they'll have the green light from the fan.
I it happens, I still don't find who wil fit the role of Major, tho...

I definitely agree with you on the dread of a live-action GitS. I would like to hope that someone could do it decently and with justice, but I know that's just reaching too far. The characters and general concept would be mutilated to fit into a different audience. I'm just going to stop now before I ramble on too much, haha.
Anyway! Love the image, it's a wonderful style. Very awesome.
