Sometimes he wondered if she knew. Knew just how charming, sweet, and irresistible she could be without even trying. How even a simple dance with her warmed his heart while simultaneously breaking it each time. Because that was precisely what the dancer was doing now and what other explanation could there be other than she was doing this on purpose? Or she was truly just as unaware of his feelings as he thought, and she was simply being herself around him as she always had. Either way, the roustabout's heart was caged and suffering yet had no desire to flee its blissfully unaware captor any time soon.

"My dear Adrian," Gale began with a playful smile, "If I had known the reason you called me out in the middle of the night was because you wished to practice your tango, I would've changed into something more suitable. Imagine the scandalized looks we'd get if someone were to see me dancing with you in just my night dress."

Adrian chuckled softly, "I believe the two of us lost all need for propriety with each other a long time ago. And if not then, when we both ended up finding each other here."

"Touche," The Sylveon responded with a soft laugh, "It's just so simple to let myself go around you. To just be me, without any pretense or walls to keep up."

The Primarina nodded as he made his next step in their dance, "And it is the same for me. Being and dancing with you... It's something that I've always cherished."

She smiled, "I do too. I don't know if I could've ever asked for a better partner."

Partner... If only she knew how much that word actually hurt to hear. Because although he wished so desperately for it to mean what he wanted it to mean, he knew that she only meant it as a term of respect and affection. Something the fairy called him without knowing what it did to him and his heart and never would know about.

Because he kept his true feelings close to his chest. His eyes held so much longing that she would never notice because he only ever let himself look at her that way when she wasn't looking. His heart held so much love for her that he would never say aloud. He had so much desire and need to reach her in a way few ever attempted and yet he refused to make it known.

Because he knew he didn't deserve her. After the great evil and trouble he had led her into before, the young mon had no right to ask for her love. He didn't deserve something so precious.

And so, he settled for this. Dancing a dance known for its passion with her while keeping his own locked away. And though it made his heart ache like nothing since he left his mother a second time to find Gale, it was worth it. He could live with his unrequited love if it meant she could keep smiling at him like that.

Done in colored pencils, pen, and with finishing touches done on my phone.

This took me awhile and there are definitely a few mistakes that I'll be kicking myself for making later. But, overall, I love how it came out and I hope all I you do too.
