Finally finished him! I like these shots. Gives you an idea of size comparison to my hand. Plus his poses just seem to plead "Take me home..."Details:
This little fox is 5" tall when sitting. I handpainted his glass-blown eyes with gold paint and modeled him a polymer clay nose, which has been varnished.
Imported synthetic fur has been used for the body and ultra-suede for his paws, with thread-sculptured toes. His face has been extensively thread and scissor sculptured and shaded with copic markers.
His is 5-way cotter pin jointed (legs, arms and head) and his tail is thread-jointed for posing.
I worked on him in the evenings for a few days. I estimate it'd have taken about 15-20 hours if I added it all up.

Unfortunately this one's sold but keep an eye out for any more. I'll be sure to post them here. My next project though is creating a kit for people to make their own.

Already working a bit on modifying a pdf pattern I found (felt is very useful for experimenting) but since I haven't done a lot of this, research and practice is key at this point, I'm sure. A lot of practice before I work on the plushie himself. That and surfing ebay for decent fur!

Yeah, it's good to do a practice first, especially if you want to use particularly nice or expensive fur for your final plush. As for books, here's a few favs:

You wouldn't be interested in selling patterns by any chance? Probably not if you don't work on the plushies often, just curious...I've been trying desperately to find a pattern in a style somewhat like yours, but not much luck!
Anyway - I love your fox. I surely would have wanted to buy him!

I have thought about making patterns for sale, but I would like to make one that's better first. This little guy turned out very nice but I know I can do better.
Thank you for the compliments. If you're looking to make a fox/wolf plush you can modify a bear one (there's lots of those for sale). Mostly you just need to make the nose longer and the ears pointier.

I understand completely. Actually the plush I'm planning is a weasel character from a favorite tv series, but he looks more like a fox with shorter ears (the smaller figure in my avatar) and I'm vey picky about getting him right - lol!

Ah I see! Well a weasel would work too. Just need to make the body longer and give him a long thin tail.
Good luck with your search. If you are interested in learning how to make your own patterns (it also helps to understand how to modify them too) then I can recommend a couple of books.

I haven't for a while although someone did just do a trade with me in return for a plush pattern of their character. Hopefully it turns out ok! I have a whole bunch of fur-fabric (fake) sitting around at home. I really ought to get back into it. Actually, I have a couple of ideas in mind... it's just a matter of getting off my bum and making them.
Heh heh the DD was a HUGE surprise! I was actually on holiday when it happened, just woken up after a bout of jet lag, and my friend was all "I think you should check your DA account..."
