(Sheva the bear, chapter 5)

Time went on, like always. Thomas and Huck had pretty comfortable lives living in Sheva’s cave. Carl and Becky became regular visitors to the cave, coming around at least one every week or so. The fox and bear enjoyed swallowing their little humans together. Thomas and Huck were safe, well fed, and kept happy…

Except… not entirely happy. Huck started to feel rather… trapped lately. Sure, he had free roam of Sheva’s cave at all hours of the day, but he hadn’t gotten the chance to go outside in weeks; not since he and Thomas went searching for a gift for her.

Things came to a head on one Saturday morning. Sheva stayed home today instead of leaving at her usual time. She fed Thomas and Huck some crackers, and went to sit down with them on her couch. She placed the two humans on her fat belly and gave a sigh of relaxation. Thomas was content, to be sure. But Huck? Huck was feeling the most restless as he’d ever felt that day. He needed something new, before he went crazy.

“Hey, Sheva…?” Huck asked cautiously.

“Yes, Huck?” She turned to smile at him. “What can I do for you?”

“Were you planning on heading out of your cave today?”

“Not at all.” The bear put her arms behind her head and stretched out. “It’s my day off. I’ve got all the time in the world to snuggle with my little humans.”

“Well, do you think that maybe we could do something besides snuggling today?” Huck asked.

“Hmm…” She smiled at him. “Feeling ready to make a plunge inside my belly.”

“That wasn’t what I had in mind at all.” Huck frowned. “I meant that I wanted to go OUTSIDE.”

“Outside?” Sheva carefully sat up and brought a hand down to collect the two humans. She adjusted herself and held Huck up before her snout. ”As in, out around my cave?”

“Anywhere, really.” Huck crossed his arms. “Thomas and I have spent a lot of time in this one place. And yes, I’m grateful to have a nice and safe home, it gets boring exploring the same places over and over again. Sheva, can’t we please go somewhere new?”

“Well, I guess I have kept you cooped up in here for a long time…” The bear’s face drooped. She brought Thomas up with her other hand. “Thomas, would you like to go somewhere new out there, too?”

“It would be nice, yes.” Thomas nodded. “Please don’t be mad.”

“Mad?” Sheva frowned. “I wouldn’t be mad at you for wanting to go outside.” She placed the two humans inside her cleavage. “Here, let me go get ready for the outdoors. Then we’ll go exploring somewhere.”

Huck blushed a bit as the bear’s bosom bounced up and down. He couldn’t believe how easy it was to get what he wanted; maybe all he had to do was ask from the start.

Before long, Sheva had put on a thick coat and some boots which had sat in the corner of her closet for weeks. She carefully transferred her two humans into a pocket on the coat, and left it open partially for them to poke their heads out of.

“What’s all this for?” Thomas asked.

“For the cold.” Sheva said. “It’s getting closer to wintertime these days.”

“Oh, geez.” Huck grimaced. “Winter has always been the hardest time for Thomas and I to survive.”

“Well, not anymore.” The bear smiled. She walked out of her bedroom and patted Huck on the head with a finger. “I’ll be sure to keep you boys nice and warm during the winter months. But in the meantime, let’s go and explore the outside world while it’s still autumn.”

Sheva stepped out of her cave and made her way down the brisk mountain path. Huck and Thomas ducked down further inside the pocket to take in her body’s warmth.

The world was rather surreal from Huck’s vantage point within Sheva’s pocket. The dirt and grassed seemed so much smaller, and the towering trees weren’t so towering anymore. The human’s moved at a brisk pace; Sheva’s mere walking speed was easily faster than theirs. Perhaps it wouldn’t take long to get to where they were going after all.

“Alright, boys, the world’s ours to explore.” The bear smiled. “Where would you like me to go?”

“Maybe we could go take a look at that stream.” Thomas said as he pointed to the water as it snaked across the path before her cave.”

“Uh… we’ve all already seen it.” Sheva snorted. “Come on, I’m sure you want to go a bit further than that, right?”

“Yeah…” Huck nodded. “Just look at all those hills and valleys out there. And you can see the forest over to the west…” He stood up and looked around. “And there’s what looks like a mountain off to the east. And to the north, there’s… there’s…” He gulped as he saw the skyscrapers in the distance. “The city.”

“Hmm, yeah, the city.” Sheva smiled. “There’s lots to do in the city.”

Immediately the bear took off with a skip in her step. She whistled a merry tune as she carried her humans to the north.

“Maybe I can pop into my job at the market and introduce you to everyone.” Sheva said with a smile. “I’m sure Mrs. Baker would be interested in saying hello.”

“Who’s Mrs. Baker?” Thomas asked.

“She’s a rabbit florist who comes by three times a week.” Sheva answered. “She’s an herbivore: couldn’t digest any humans if she tried.”

“Well, that’s good, I guess.” Huck shrugged.

“Hmm, but she might not be coming around to the shop today…” Sheva scratched her chin. “Why don’t we just play it by ear: I’ll take a nice walk through the city and keep an eye out for anything interesting.”

“You won’t be parading us around in front of other anthros, right?” Huck asked nervously.

“Of course not; you two will be my little secret.” The bear made a zipper gesture on her mouth and snickered.

“Well, okay…” Huck sat down and got comfortable. “Lead the way, Sheva.”

~~…~~

It didn’t take long for Sheva to walk into the inner limits of the city. Many buildings and skyscrapers rose up high into the sky, making her seem like an ant. So of course, that made Huck feel infinitely smaller than he usually did. Plus, there were countless anthros walking along the many city streets; it made Huck squeak in fright and duck down inside the pocket.

“Aww, don’t be scared, little one.” Sheva affectionately rubbed Huck’s head. “Nobody’s going to see you. You’re safe.”

“It’s instinctual at this point, Sheva…” Huck grumbled.

“Oh, you silly little boy.”

But what Huck didn’t tell Sheva, was that this particular part of the city was starting to look… awfully familiar. Certain streets had names he remembered from years ago. He hadn’t been in these parts in ages, and had hoped to never come back. But unbeknownst to Sheva, she was leading right down memory lane. Huck shivered as he shrank back inside the pocket.

“Hey, watch out…” Thomas said as he stood up. “I want to have a look around, too.”

“You be careful…” Huck warned. “Don’t stick out too far; you might fall out.”

“It’s so sweet seeing you care for him like that.” Sheva smiled down at them. She lightly rubbed both of their heads with her fingers. “I’d swear that you two were brothers.”

“Brothers?” Thomas blinked.

“Brothers…” Huck repeated quietly. He hadn’t thought about the concept of brothers in a while… He shivered as a painful memory flashed through his mind.

After about ten more minutes of walking, Sheva glanced up at an airship as it passed over the city. Huck saw it too; there was a banner stuck to the side of the airship, showing off some kind of fancy film coming out that weekend.

“I just got an idea!” Sheva exclaimed and peered down at her humans. “How about I take you two to see a movie?”

“A movie?” Thomas repeated. “You mean like those things on Television that anthros like to watch?”

“Yeah, exactly.” The bear said. “We can go down to the theater in town: I’m sure there’s something that you two would like to watch.”

“Does that mean we have to interact with more anthros?” Huck asked worriedly.

“Oh don’t worry your little head; most anthros know better than to challenge a bear for her human pets.” Sheva gave a little chuckle. “Come on; let’s go.”

Huck didn’t really have much of a choice, but at least he was still going somewhere new. And maybe she had a point; bears were often the bigger and scarier types of common anthros he’d seen. If he ever saw any of those frightening foxes out and about, he could rely on Sheva to protect him… right?

~~…~~

The movie theater’s entrance sat at the corner of two busy streets. A line of movie posters sat in a grid beside the doorway. Sheva pulled her two humans out of the pocket and held them up to look around.

“Do you boys see anything you’d like to watch?” She asked.

Huck skimmed over the line of posters; naturally, the films starred a bunch of anthro actors that he didn’t recognize. Thomas didn’t seem all too interested in most of the choices either. With a shrug, Huck glanced over to the other side… and he gasped in surprise. One of the posters showed a beautiful sunset in a desert town. The head of a black snake loomed overhead, smiling down playfully at the viewer with fluttering female eyes.

“Hey, is that a western?” Huck asked as he pointed at a poster. “That looks pretty cool!”

“Is that the genre with the desert towns and the gun duels?” Thomas asked.

“That’s over-generalizing it, but kinda.” Sheva chuckled.

“I haven’t seen one of those in years!” Huck declared. “What do you say we check it out, guys?”

“Let me have a closer look at that…” Sheva said. She walked across the way to have a look at the poster. “Anna Alicia starring in… High Noon at Thunder Gulch. Rated R.” The bear glanced down at the two humans curiously. “Do you think you two can handle a movie like that?”

“Oh, definitely!” Huck smiled. “Can we see it? Can we?”

“What do YOU think, Thomas?” Sheva glanced at the shorter human.

“Well, I guess it’s interesting enough.” He shrugged. Huck just rolled his eyes and eagerly leaned out of the pocket as he waited to go inside.

There was an anthro cat in a fancy uniform sitting behind a glass booth. There wasn’t much of a line at this time of day; Sheva sighed in relief as she stepped up to the booth.

“Tickets for one anthro and two humans, please.” Sheva said as she held her humans up. “We want to see the 10am showing for that Thunder Gulch movie.“

The cat glanced down at the two humans. Thomas waved, while Huck was a bit more cautious. The cat gave an odd look to the bear. “Pets or snacks?”

“Is both an option?” Sheva snickered.

“Whatever…” The cat pressed a few buttons, and the ticket slid out of a slider. Sheva paid for the fare, thanked the cat, and stuffed the tickets into her pocket between the humans. With a smile, the bear made her way inside the building.

She immediately made a turn toward the concession stand to pick up some snacks. She purchased a small Popsi-Cola, and a medium popcorn. On a whim, Sheva fetched her two humans and stuck them onto the top of the popcorn. They gasped, but quickly became enraptured by the smell of butter. One of the attendants at the stand, a rabbit, smirked at the sight.

“This a first time taking you humans to the movies?” She asked as she gave Sheva her change.

“Oh, yes.” Sheva nodded. “They haven’t been out of my home in a long while, and they’ve been such good boys that I felt like treating them.”

“Well, I hope you all enjoy the show!” The rabbit waved as Sheva turned to head toward the corridor that led to the theaters.

A wolf in an attendant’s uniform stopped the bear and held a hand out to retrieve the tickets. Sheva handed them over without question, though the wolf grimaced upon seeing the humans in their popcorn.

“You’re taking your humans to see an Anna Alicia movie?” He asked cautiously.

“Why? Is there something wrong with that?” Sheva raised an eyebrow.

“Well, no, you can do as you please…” The wolf said awkwardly. “It’s just that… well… Anna Alicia’s film history has a recurring theme, and there’s a 50/50 chance that your humans will either love it or hate it if you’re going in blind.”

“Hey, I know the difference between real life and a movie.” Huck declared.

“Sure…” The wolf scratched behind his head. “Oh, that reminds me” you’re going to want to give them these…” The attendant held up two pairs of tiny headphones from a pocket.

“What are those for?” Huck asked.

“For keeping you from being killed by the theater’s surround sound system.” The wolf gave the headphones to Sheva and stepped to the side. “Enjoy the flick, Miss.”

“Thanks, I’m sure we will…” Sheva stepped around the wolf and made her way deeper into the corridor. She spotted which theater to head into, and strode down the way.

Along the line, Huck saw a flash of pink; the shape was oddly familiar, as if he’d seen it somewhere before. But it was gone in a flash, vanishing behind the very door that Sheva was heading towards.

~~…~~

The wolf was right: Huck and Thomas seriously needed those headphones. Things got LOUD as the opening credits played over a train heist. But once they were on, Huck really got into the movie.

There was always something he loved about westerns; the setting was just so surreal compared to the lush greens he was used to in the forest, or the dull grays of the buildings in the urban city. Everything was so bright, and everyone wore such exotic outfits.

Anna Alicia played some kind of female bounty hunter. And boy did she like to show off her… assets. Sheva blushed and covered her eyes during some rather interesting scenes. At one point, in order to trick a micro mouse outlaw she was hunting after, Anna (Huck didn’t remember the in-universe name) dressed up as a sultry saloon gall and performed an exotic dance. Most of the males in the audience were delighted, and so were some of the ladies. Things came to a head when Anna slurped the mouse into her maw and gulped him down. And that outlaw didn’t turn up again until a rather amusing post-credits scene as Anna was riding out of town on her feral horse.

Eventually the movie ended, and Sheva made her way up from her seat and out of the theater. She fished through her popcorn box to fetch Thomas and Huck out. The three of them had finished off about half the popcorn box by the time the two-hour film had ended.

“Did you boys enjoy the film?” Sheva asked quietly as she stepped toward the doorway.

“It was nice…” Thomas shrugged.

“Well I love it.” Huck declared. “Just about everything in that film was great; the shootouts, the train robbery, the panning shots of Thunder Gulch itself…”

“The vore scene?” Sheva asked curiously.

Huck gulped. “Uh…”

“I couldn’t help but notice you leaning forward during Anna’s song…” The bear chuckled. “I’ll bet if she were right in front of you in real life, you would have jumped right into her throat.”

“N-No…” Huck sat down and blushed. “I just… I like snakes? We’ll go with that.”

“A snake in boots?” Sheva gave a grin.

Huck stopped talking and gasped. His eyes went wide as he looked down the way at the form of a fox. And it wasn’t just any fox; she had pink fur and wore blue jeans. She had a light-pink mane, which was tied back with a blue ribbon. She had glitter on her talons, and walked in little blue sandals as she spoke with a tabby cat beside her. A backpack shaped like a pink heart was slung over her shoulder.

No, no no… Huck thought worriedly. It can’t be. It just can’t be.

“Hey, what’s wrong?” Thomas asked worriedly.

“Sheva, walk the other way!” Huck pleaded. The bear stopped and looked down at him curiously.

“What’s wrong, Huck?” She asked aloud.

The mention of his name made the fox flinch, to Huck’s horror. He ducked down into the pocket as the fox turned around. Dread filled the human’s being as the fox stepped closer. Oh, no no no…

“Uh, excuse me…” The fox girl asked. “Did you happen to say the name… Huck?”

“That depends.” Sheva crossed her arms and inspected the fox curiously. She covered her pocket with a hand, making Huck hopeful that SHE wouldn’t see him.

“Well…” The fox muttered. “I used to know a Huck, several years ago. Maybe you recognize him…?”

The fox pulled something out of her backpack, filling Huck with dread. Moments later, Sheva gasped in surprise. Sheva moved her hand from her pocket and opened it up wide with the other one.

“Huck… Come out here.” Sheva said quietly.

With a chill going up and down his spine, the lanky human stood up, peered out of the pocket… and looked upon the face he dreaded seeing for years. There before him were those sparkling blue eyes, and that tell-tale heart-shaped beauty mark on her left cheek.

“What’s going on here, Cin?” The tabby cat asked nearby. The fox ignore her friend as she gasped at the sight of Huck. Her eyes became teary, and she immediately snatched him up and hugged him against her right cheek.

“Oh my God, HUCK!” The fox girl cried as she held him close. “It’s you! You’re alive!”

Huck stayed quiet as the fox cried and gave him affectionate licks. She’d been holding her phone in her other hand, which showed a picture of the fox girl with a much younger Huck sitting on her shoulder; they were smiling and making heart signs with their hands. Thomas had been looking at the picture in confusion for a moment, while Sheva looked between the two of them incredulously.

“So, THIS is the fox you’ve been telling me about, Huck?” Sheva asked. “The one you’ve been afraid of?”

“Uh…” Huck tugged at his shirt collar.

“Hmm?” The fox girl pulled Huck away from her cheek and frowned. “Afraid of me?”

“Yes, very afraid.” Sheva crossed her arms. “According to Huck, several years ago you ate his whole family.”

The fox girl blinked. She looked between Huck and the bear with a look of confusion and betrayal.

“Well… yes, I did.” The fox girl said. “They asked me to eat them.”

“What?” Sheva reeled back. She then looked down at Huck. “Is this true?”

“Uh… kind of…?” Huck said dubiously.

“Cin, what’s going on?” The cat asked.

“Hold, on Jessie…” The fox girl frowned at Huck, and then looked up at the bear. “Who are you? And where did you find Huck?”

“He stumbled into my cave a few weeks ago.” Sheva gave the fox a curious look. “I’m Sheva. And just who exactly are YOU to Huck?”

“Isn’t it obvious?” The fox girl sniffled as she held up the photo again. “I’m Cindy. I’m his girlfriend.”
