I made a speedpainting last week-end, then I decided to make a small comic strip with it.
But now it is done, I have mixed feeling about this mini project.
On one side Speedpainting technics made it flexible ( big love to Krita transform/warp tool and deform brush engine ) , and I could work on ambiant, rendering and lighting as I wanted ( this part can really frustrate me when I start with line-art , or any black-and-white outline ). So, I had fun.
On the other side, I couldn't spend time on the background, and kept it rough ; I also think all this visual noise affect the readability and make the time even slower. I did hesitate to even add text and small sound Fx till the last moment. So, I don't think speedpainting rendering ( the way I do it ) is optimal for visual storytelling ; and also it's time consumming. It wasn't easy to draw characters , making details out of the cloudy brush strokes. Next one, I'll probably try another strategy to find a satisfying rendering, and keep flexible fun.

I love how the other cats all have hearts in their eyes looking at SuperKitty! Very cool joke/comic! Love it!

Well deserved DD. I have to say I love her kitchen; those glowing skylights and the big round window. Nicely impressionistic without too much detail to detract from the foreground.

Adorable! If she's not winning first in the race. She might win for the best cat!

This is wonderful. I love how you play off of the rich folklore, and also add some very modern twists (the box of "make it yourself!" and the raceline checker-banner-thingy), but the Story~ the story you chose is just awesome.
Hahaha, I love your flying Golden Cat.

hahahaha thats glorious congrats on the well deserved DD
it fits so well as cats are so curious. And how happy that cat looks despite the giggles of the other witches and that perfectly frustrated look of the little potion maker
You should probably paint the cauldron without fire in the last 2 panels where the broom is painted and the cat jumps in. a boiling hot broth is probably not that healthy for her.
I like how the spoon comes out of the cauldron once the potion works, that makes an easy blending into the last panel.

Awesome work! I love the colors and the rough visible strokes, that make the scene so vital.

oh, this is a mistake in my story. Nicely spotted.
If I need to republish later, I'll certainly correct the fire under the cauldron, and make a cold mixture potion.
Thx for this feedback and your attention to details.

"reckless ubermanely cat with no fear of pain at all" can be a good comic strip idea, too.
i'll note it somewhere. xD

i got this from the "overly manly man"-meme. .. where he calls Lego bricks a casual footware.
.. dont know how this chliché fits to a cat,... but if you find a way, you're genious ^^

Well, I think it looks cool. Since the characters are a bit more detailed than the background, and in a different color palette, they still stand out in a convincing way.
And I love the cat in the last panel ^^

Thx Thetetine !
Directly speedpainting character was a pain, for 'drawing' them. Next one, I'll test to draw it a bit more prior to do the render.
Good to know I can keep the background 'roughed/draft' for the depht of field and avoid heavy work on the detail/smoothing.

Starting with a rough sketch certainly helps. The difficult part being, resisting the need to make a clean lineart before painting
