I made a speedpainting last week-end, then I decided to make a small comic strip with it.
But now it is done, I have mixed feeling about this mini project.
On one side Speedpainting technics made it flexible ( big love to Krita transform/warp tool and deform brush engine ) , and I could work on ambiant, rendering and lighting as I wanted ( this part can really frustrate me when I start with line-art , or any black-and-white outline ). So, I had fun.
On the other side, I couldn't spend time on the background, and kept it rough ; I also think all this visual noise affect the readability and make the time even slower. I did hesitate to even add text and small sound Fx till the last moment. So, I don't think speedpainting rendering ( the way I do it ) is optimal for visual storytelling ; and also it's time consumming. It wasn't easy to draw characters , making details out of the cloudy brush strokes. Next one, I'll probably try another strategy to find a satisfying rendering, and keep flexible fun.

Hm, I actually prefer this kind of background because it does't get so much in the way of text and characters as it doesn't distract with too many details. I also think that the warm colours on the witch and cauldron help set them apart from the background nicely. The only bit that works a bit less for me is the last panel, probably because she seems to tend more towards green than earthy tones like in the other panels (though, that makes sense due to the environment and the light cast by the broom).

Hey x-Ren-x ;
Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate. Good to know the color palette for the focus point worked.
Also good to know the break of the palette colors on the last panel had a little 'disturbing' effect. I'll try to keep more consistency in the 'warm/cold' contrast in the next one.

Yes! This is so good. It was well worth the work, I'd say.
I didn't understand the fourth panel, at first, but that doesn't matter because it became clear in the fifth panel. But if you want to show the fourth panel as a single image, you might want to consider having more contrast or having less glowing yellow stuff.

Hey RetSamys,
Thanks for the feedback ; the fourth panel is problematic indeed. It could work probably better if I went to gif-anim ; You are right ; the Fx bright halo around the cauldron make it hard to focus on the point of the scene ; 'the spoon' and the 'vegetable' flying. I also should introduce the spoon as a non flying element prior to that. ( maybe panel two ).
If I do another publishing of this strip ; I'll for sure diminuish the halo effect on the fourth panel , and add 'speed lines' around the two object to make the levitation more obvious.

that's a good caption suggestion for the cat speech bubble on the last panel.

Thanks ! i'm a bit affraid of the 'art' word, but for sure, I see the compliment.
Thanks again. For me, I don't think its art, but a small fun entertainement.
Still in raw state, I still need to learn a lot to make better comic-strip.
I'm happy you liked the 'short' aspect . i'm working on it !
