Pretty...sometimes a good shot can be made better by cropping.

thanks! I was actually experimenting with cropping it before putting it up, but didn't crop it in any way I ended up really liking. I do like your editing though. I wasn't really thinking of placing the flower so far off-center, but it looks really nice. Maybe I'll have to look at placing flowers more off-center in the future, or at least cropping photos that way in the future.
this might sound kind of funny, but doing that is a bit outside of my comfort zone.

I understand completely. We each have a way of expressing. I tend to not like main subject matter so centered. It tends to stagnant a picture. I use the basic rule of thirds foremost when composing a photo in the camera's viewfinder and then tweak it if necessary in post editing. Having the main subject off center invites viewers to look at a photograph that is presented as stronger. www.digitaltrends.com/photograβ¦

Thanks for the link!! I remember back in high school, they were teaching our yearbook group about the rule of thirds, so I've definitely heard of it before. Sometimes I look out for it if I'm doing a larger landscape shot, but other times I don't think about it too much. I can't set the overlay as a setting when I take photos, so I have to "eyeball" it. Your explanation is better than my high school teacher's though and I really appreciate that. I'll have to experiment more with it for sure (especially because as your link says, it has been very much known to be successful).

It's only a rule and like with all rules, they are meant to be broken...from time to time

I enjoy breaking them, however I feel that I do so often unintentionally.
