Yooo defiled! I been tryna look for this piece man since u posted it on the forums awhile back. Your paintings are totally awesome man and this one is soo sick to look at! i remember lookin at this one for ages before lol, tryna figure out how u make your colour choices. Hey! haha thanks. Hmm tips, well. Everytime, or most of the time when I start a more serious piece I look into my 'inspiration folder'. I've collected 1000's of images from all cool artists I find and look at some of them every day.
This helps me to keep motivated and also insigt to how they use textures and colours.
This exact piece started out as an abstract scribble, I was just trying out some new brushes and randomly throwing out colours. After a while some shapes stood out and I kept working with them.
Really though, if you want to improve colours I suggest you draw from life. Still life' or studying photographies. That's probably the best way to gain a solid knowledge of how colours interact with each other and how light and shadow relates.

The part about how blood plays a part in the colour of skin really helped me a lot!

I used a funny custom brush I have for the fire, and some brushes that behave a bit like a traditional oilbrush. Though I'm trying out new brushes all the time, combining different ones, adding different settings to get new effects
