Description
This is a drawing of a three-part series I'm doing. This one is the show jumper, the reference used with permission from . Here's the original: [link]This is my first real try at a background (besides just grey), and I think it went all right. All the technical aspects aren't quite correct, but I'm hoping the focus is on the horse and rider.
What do you think? Anything glaringly wrong, or something I miraculously got right?

The angular streaks of the background give this drawing a very dynamic feel, like the horse is going really fast. The one thing that confused me was the white thing by the rear leg of the horse. Not till I looked at the photo did I realize it's a flag. I thought it was part of the horse because of the way it lines up with the shadow of the leg. Still, it's an amazing drawing!

I think the problem is caused by something called a "tangent", where the edges of two objects line up in such a way that fools the eye into thinking the objects are connected in some way. All you have to do is change the angle of one of the objects (in this case, the flag) so that they become more distinct. Here's an interesting article about tangents: [link]

This is fantastic! They both look so intense and focused!
It may be just me but I do wish the shadows on the horse and rider were just that little bit darker, to make the 'pop' more (although that may just be the scanner's fault)
Apart from that, it's beautiful, can't wait to see the rest of the series!
Also, the background's not bad at all! It's presence definitely adds to the drawing, but looks simple enough to not detract from the main subject!
PS I think that may be my hat d: Gotta be doing something right if I'm even recognizing the hat hahaa
