It is said that those monks most skilled in Hesychasm are able to do things comparable to the Biblical prophets. Those in Soviet Russia and later the Soviet block countries proved an endless thorn in the side of the godless communists from the beginning in 1917; not ONE First Class Hesychast was ever caught unless he deliberately gave himself up, usually under circumstances similar to Saint Peter’s “Quo Vadis” return to Rome to encourage the Faithful to resist Nero, at which the Hesychast was quickly put down, which somehow could never be done until he finished speaking his last sermon. His body would be riddled with bullets, but he would just keep talking and encouraging the prisoners and only collapse at the end of his last “Amen”.
There was ONLY one attempt to brainwash such a Hesychast, as had been successfully done with many lesser priests, and it backfired so spectacularly (the interrogators were all converted!), that the focus turned to simply kill all known Hesychasts on sight, unless they could confirm in advance that the target was a novice who might still be broken like a normal monk.
There are cases of at least two Hesychasts Russian independent researchers called “Raguel”, that is, they became filled with Spirt of The Vengeance of God. Whenever a Party Member committed a particular sort of offense directly against Christians or blasphemy against the church, exactly 491 times, one of these “Dark Hesychasts” would appear before him. The stories about what happened next vary, and some are too vague, but one theory is that the Noose came about due their reactions against some particularly cruel Party members.
