Rey only won because it was convenient to the writers that she be 'more intuned with the force', as I hear many people say. Kylo has far more experience with the force and a light saber.

What makes a great character is the potential and transforming that character into their full potential. Kylo ren will return as a great villian, I have no doubt of that.

He barely beat Finn. She may have been more intuned with the force, but had zero lightsaber training. And yet Ren couldn't defeat her. How did this guy manage to overthrow the Jedi order? Much less give Luke a reason to leave?
Vader overcame his whininess and when he got the armor he stopped that. Then he became the cold, ruthless, and utterly awesome Sith Lord we know.
Maybe. But from this movie he seems more like a little dweeb.

As I told you. The only reason Rey won was bad writing. It is the only scene in the movie that I generally hate. The rest of the movie is great, but that scener where he fights ren in frankly uninteresting as a fight and the turn of the tide where rey won is just plain bad writing so the good guys win.
Also. Ren kicked finn's ass.

As I have to say again since for some reason, ren is still young and in training. Vader was fairly older and much stronger and experienced. I have no doubt he will exceed expectations in the sequel.
We have no information about the Jedi order incident either. The fellow Jedi ren was probably training with were probably just as inexperienced as him, or Smoke could of wiped them out and taken ren for training.Β

You already mentioned that. Considering Ren never finished his training, and his general incompetence, I'm not too surprised. And what, you'd rather not have the good guys win?

I'd have to see. But in this he showed none of Vader's personal majesty and presence.
I'm talking about him going up against Luke Skywalker. Unless Snote helped him I don't see how Ren could have survived that.

Bad writing. That's what it is. You can still have contrived or bad writing in an awesome movie. And like I said, it kind of a tie at the end. The republic planets supporting leia and her group was destroyed and the star killer was destroyed. There's a large chance snote has more support and possibly even other Jedi he's turned from the order.
The battle with Finn was good and by far one of my favorite lightsaber duels. They very equal matched and I do admit Finn displayed a good amount of resistance. It was pointed out to me by Jeremy jahns in his review that ren probably had very little experience fighting people with a lightsaber
that being said he still should have won against rey.
I disagree. That opening where he stops a blast in mid air is committed in my mind as one of the best villian intros I've ever seen in a movie. He's cruel and intimidating ...up to the point where he takes off his mask, but at that point I argue that he becomes a much better and developed character.
Why would luke fight against ren. He's his nephew and the very last of his family. From the way luke was described as leaving, he was most likely unable to fight his own family again and left regetfull that he didn't stop ren.
Also ren showed immense power. It's possible he was much stronger or at least had more access to the force than his fellow apprentices.

It's still supposed to be overall the heroes victory.
After being exhausted after fighting Finn with a blaster wound in his chest I think it's safe to assume he didn't have much left for Rey.
He acts like a whiny little teen for the rest. Even when he has the mask on he just destroys stuff whenever he has a temper tantrum. He's not very intimidating. Unlike Vader who throughout the originals was cold and calm while radiating a fearsome presence. This kid is just trying to follow in Vader's footsteps and failing. And we don't know why he wants to be like Vader. He's not very well-developed, and unlike Vader we can't appreciate the mystery to the character.
Because Ren turned to the dark side, killed his reborn Jedi order and is now a threat to the galaxy? We don't know why Luke left but it would be for reasons bigger than Ren being his nephew.
Whatever power Ren has, it's nowhere's near Luke's level. Nor does he have Luke's decades of experience and practiced skill. Luke fought Darth Vader twice. The first time managing to hold his own despite less experience and only beginning his training, the final time surpassing Vader and defeating him. Ren doesn't hold a candle. I doubt Ren was even Luke's star apprentice considering how little discipline he's shown to have.

I think ren is awesome and more interesting than Darth vader
I think rey shouldn't of won that battle and Finn was an overall better developed character. If anyone should of beat ren it should of been him.
These are my overall thoughts and complaints about the film. I loved it and ren and Finn(hey that rymed).Β
You disagree and have your own opinions as do many fans and 'haters' of the movie. That fine. And while I don't necessarily agree with your opinion, but I'll respect it as I hope you respect my opinion of Kylo Ren.

Very well. I don't find him as interesting or as good a villain as Vader. Vader's aura of mystery and later his connection to Luke gave him far more of a character then Kylo who acts more like a whiny little brat then a intimidating villain.
I liked it too. I just felt their villain was really lacking. Then let's agree to disagree.
