the 550d is almost as good as the 7d with producing low noise at high iso's!

plus, faster shutter speed produce a little less noise and i had to use quicker shutter speeds because of how unpredictable my cats were

oh, i see. well perhaps you've gotta alter your your settings within the camera to compensate for higher iso speeds. if you go into menu, navigate your way to wrench #3, then click custom functions. have a look around there for the higher iso reduction settings!
