This is a gorgeous shot hun.. I love azalea's. I have a pink and purple one blooming in my rock garden... I did have a white and red one but last yr the drought killed them...

Ruth, someone that knows flowers better than I will probably say i'm wrong.. I can't find a clear cut answer to the difference between rhododendron and azalias.. but I always thought the azalia was just a smaller variety of rhododendron. I would consider these rhododendron. They do grow in abundance here this time of year.. They are in just about every yard and park in the surrounding area.

To me, rhododendron are usually blue (tho you can fertilize for purple, pink, white) but the flowers are almost like pompom clumps on a single stick/stock. The bushes are similar but the individual flowers in the clumps are four petal, almost flat with a stamin sticking up [link] ooooh, I am wrong!!! What I was thinking a rhododendron is a hydrangia...I looked them both up and realize that the azalea's [link] are very similar to rhododendron (I just had the wrong flower!), so I don't know what you have . But they are beautiful! I think we have a bush or two in our new yard - flowers are gone but the leaves looks familiar (azalea/rhododnedron - not hydrangia
) We have lots of new plants to figure out what are and what their care needs are...

I have a yard full of azalias/rhododendron.. it's the one plant that grows well in my area. I know you're suppose to fertilize them when the last of the blooms drop off but I normally wait until fall and have had no problems... also, having acidic soil doesn't hurt. Good luck with the new plants .. i have a feeling they'll do well under your care!
