Description
ok, here's a quick project I started for school. I only had a few days to finish, yet it's still unfinished. I really need to finish my other pieces, but I've been preoccupied with 'life'. This is me giving a subtle middle finger to realism: Judges at my school seem to hate realism. graphite 22.5in X 30inThanks for viewing!!

You've put a spin on self portraits, not ya bog standard face! The perspective is amazing!

Very nice and realistic-- and smart! I think foreshortening is one of the most difficult things to draw!
So, do you happen to know why the judges seem to be so against realism? Is it because it's considered more as a skill than an artistic attempt?

hey artizd. hmmm well, that's an interesting point! I think the judges arent elevated with realism (my school anyways) b/c it's straight replication of reality. In other words a camera can do the same thing.... I like craftsmanship in art, thats just me

I think photorealism is more like straight replication of reality-- even then, photos don't really depict reality. The depth of field doesn't happen in your eyes like on the lense. Anyway, I agree with you-- and if I may add, creativity is artistic, regardless whether what's created seems real or not.
