Just redesigning my characters. Bael in particular was in dire need of an upgrade. I wanted him to look less like an alien and more like an experiment, which is what he is. I wanted him to have more human qualities to him, while still looking like he walked out of a lab or something.The only things I wanted to keep constant were the third eye and the hood, though I replaced the cobra hood with thick wires because I like the feel of them better.
I think I succeeded, but iunno. I like him now much better than I did before, though. c:
Also I'm starting to feel more confident when handling colour, which is awesome. I feel less awkward with it. Now if only I can feel as comfortable working with colour as I do when I draw in pen...

let me just say right now that the rating to the left means nothing. as a work that is already reaching a professional level, I feel it would be unfair to rate based on absolutes. because at a professional level, skill becomes far more subjective and opinionated. so I give everything a five out of necessity. enjoy them stars.
I must say, even though the original design are incredibly boss, there is certainly a great degree of improvement. I agree, Bael needed to look more human. however, there are a few things that bother me.
the cable-y things don't look very lovecraftian. they look like metal cables. you should add some details that fit with the rest of his face, otherwise, it kind of stands out. it's an interesting redesign of the cobra hood, but you should work on it a bit more.
furthermore, on the story, even though I don't know much about it. you say he's an experiment. an experiment of what? The thing about science that hollywood forgets is that it's supposed to actually test something, from the physics of the universe, to the effects of a particular chemical on living organisms. scientists aren't going to mess with human anatomy for shits and giggles. may I suggest you not go for the cop-out "living weapon" or "super-soldier" explanation. the military isn't advancing in that direction, and the device is becoming cliched.
but don't fear! I have an idea for you! whether you adopt it or not, here ya go:
out of all the stories of cosmic horrors I've seen, I have never seen mankind actually try to understand the eldritch gods on a scientific level (except maybe Half-life and the scp.). Perhaps Bael was used as a sort of guinea pig (after actual guinea pigs, of course) to test the physical and mental effects of the Other World.
and it all followed the scientific method, and somehow passed the ethics test.

as a stand-alone picture, the design is very compelling and unique. he looks rather determined, and if you put him in a suit, would look like a very dapper villain! fitting for the head of a corporation.e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b… " width="15" height="15" alt="

Oh mai, it's funny that you should suggest he was used as a human guinea pig, considering that's exactly what was done to him. XD
I don't really like going too deep into these things outside of my story, but the idea is that he was sort of in the wrong place at the wrong time, some interesting things happened to him, and instead of helping him, his employers instead decided to renounce his humanity and use him as their own. There's no harm in testing something that isn't technically human... Right? 
I agree that the supersoldier and living weapon tropes are indeed very cliche, but if done right they can be awesome. Unfortunately Bael is neither. He was simply caught in something he shouldn't have been caught in.
Ah, interesting thought on the cables. I guess for now they're sort of place holders. I agree that they need more tweaking. Thank you for pointing them out.

He does look more foreign and demonic. The third eye jutting out of the skull at an unnatural angle compliments the odd jaw structure. I like this design a lot.
