Description I had success this past Monday, but only just barely. I joined the eclipse crowd gathering in Kansas City (partly to revisit my old stomping grounds in town), and we had one heck of a storm blow in the morning of. As anyone visiting KC can tell you, it was spotty all over the metro area. There wasn't any certainty where there would be visibility and where there wouldn't.

Traveling with my family, we took a gamble and went up north near Excelsior Springs. When we arrived, it was raining in sheets. In the hour leading up to the eclipse, the rain stopped and the storm clouds thinned. In the last half hour, we got patches of clear sky, and caught slivers of the moon passing in front of the sun. Then, in the last five minutes, a hole opened up and we watched the whole eclipse from start to finish.

It is an incredible experience. Something out of a movie. The 360 degree sunset and darkness is spooky. We briefly heard the two NASA jets fly overhead chasing the shadow. I wish I had more time to capture it all, but eclipse totality only lasts for a couple of minutes.

And then when it ended, the storms rolled right back in and we experienced pounding rain for several more hours. A small miracle that it halted long enough for a few of us.

This was truly amazing to view the eclipse! I'm glad the storm passed before the eclipse started. I don't think we would see an eclipse then.

Yup! It was spectacular here, which I guess is the same place you watched it at.

A total eclipse is perfectly safe to look at without safety glasses. That's part of the reason why they're so magical.

Though before and after totality, glasses are a must!

Brilliant. Totally have to wait until 2024, was running a music festival the weekend up to the eclipse.

Wow awsome shot, I went down the South Carolina but we had the complete opposite, a Storm rolled through just as Totality hit, so we missed it by just a few seconds.

Oh man! I'm so sorry. The weather was really touch and go, wasn't it?

Yeah the weather just wasn't playing the same game, but it was still worth trying. The shadow was amazing just how it moved across the land, that alone made my day.

I think I experienced one solar eclipse when I was very little and I don't remember much. I think we couldn't really see a lot and it wasn't a full eclipse. Sounds like a stunning experience.

Yeah I had an eclipse experience about five years ago that was only a "ring of fire," so there was no totality and it was nothing compared to this one.

Amazing story to go along with this equally amazing photograph! It was my first time ever witnessing an eclipse, and I was utterly blown away. This photo captures that astounding feeling exactly!

Absolutely surreal wasn't it. I was in Ravenna Nebraska with lots of equipment. I got my picture posted.
