So cute!
Curious though... aren't most faces drawn on?

Some artists paint their faces on, yes. I don't. All of the faces on these guys are clay.

XD That's harder though. But still... cute!

I love it!! SOoo adorable

Does your wire hook fall out easy though? That's the current issue I am having with my polymer clay pendants! Any tips would be most helpful!!!

Thanks.

Sometimes. If the charm is put through alot it can. If this is a concern I would suggest using tiny hook and eye screw. You can find them at hardware stores. They are bulkier than the jewelry eye pins shown here, but more secure because you can literally screw them into the clay. Another option is to take the stem part of the jewelry eye pin and with a pair of needlenose pliers, actually bend the stem in different directions and then insert into the clay. This will make it harder for the pin to slide out because of the angles.

Thanks for the tips!!

I started keeping my pin in by super gluing it, seems to be working good so far!

I made some stuff if you want to check it out

Can we use a pencil for the rubber paint/clay tool? A blunt pencil, that is. Great tute, I can't wait to do one of these once I get my hands on some polymer clay. >w<

Thank you.

Umm, probably. But it would take some manipulation. It doesn't have the same shape as the clay tool. The writing end of the pencil does I suppose but you risk the clay picking up the graphite when you push against it. It's worth a shot I guess- I've never tried it myself though.

If I can ever get time enough to actually sit down and play with clay again I will. *laughs* School is a time drain!

can you just bake the apple in a regular oven or do you have to have a special art oven?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

deltadream In reply to swimmergirl19 [2009-03-09 14:51:29 +0000 UTC]

While they do make a special oven for baking- it is really just a mini-oven so that you don't have to use your normal one, nothing snazzy about it. I use my regular oven because I am cheap and don't want to buy the polymer one. Some people are worried about polymer fumes but I have never had an issue and my food still tastes yummy despite the fact that I cook clay in the regular oven.

deltadream In reply to tabbykitten101 [2008-04-21 01:21:38 +0000 UTC]

Don't bake what? The apple? You have to bake it, otherwise it will stay soft. It's the second to last step.

This is really adorable. I'm impressed that you use clay instead of painting the face on like everyone else does.

Putting that hook in looks difficult. You must have a really steady hand to paint those facial features!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

deltadream In reply to polymer-clay [2007-10-11 11:45:48 +0000 UTC]

It's actually not that bad for the apple and other round charms- it's the narrow ones (like my gingerbread men) that are hard because you have to be careful not to put the hook in at an angle and punch through the clay.

And the faces aren't painted- but putting them on with litte clay pieces takes a steady hand too- so thanks for the compliment!

nice tutorial i'll try it sometime ^^ i like how it's all made of clay, especially the mouth

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

deltadream In reply to flo69 [2007-09-06 18:11:38 +0000 UTC]

Thanks!

I try to stick to clay only- I stray every once in a while but I think the clay only gives it a special element.

Thanks for the too!
