I've worked on the Shark Girl latly and thought about a background story. I roughly sketched out a scene from the character description.

Alexis “Alex”

Type:
Landshark 🦈

Physiology:
Ability to breathe on land and underwater. Fast and agile swimmer/diver.
Not so well on long hikes 😊

World setting:
Post-apocalyptic alternative reality.
People rummage through the ruins of civilization in search of technology and goods from the pre-war era.

Current location:
Undefined Caribbean island group

Specialties and activities:
Treasure hunt and diving. In addition, patrols against piracy and poaching. Volunteer Park Ranger of the old Sea Life nature reserve.

Life and Origin:
Work and live with Rob Stoner, son of former Navy UDT diver Henry Stoner.
Alexis was one of many bioengineered oceanic life forms, created by the old superpowers to serve in various roles in naval warfare. In the final devastating days of the Great Crisis, Rob's father rescued and fled with little Alexis when his aircraft carrier was sunk by multiple torpedo hits. The rest of the world was in ruins. Government and infrastructure were gone.
Rob's father reunited with his young son in the Caribbean. In the years that followed, Henry took care of Rob and Alexis. They grew up together. Henry taught them all about diving, marine life, and survival. He died a few years later from radiation poisoning and injuries from escaping.

Alexis spends most of her time on the water with Rob, looking for treasures, lost technology, or shipwrecks. While she is on the hunt for food or longer dives, Rob trades their findings with locals for gasoline and equipment or maintains her old speed boat.
Both volunteered to protect the area from pirates and poachers.
Most of the time, she keeps her distance from other people because they know her kind well enough to know what she is capable of. Fear or suspicion is a common behavior towards her species, so she prefers to stay in the background while Rob does business. Alex and Rob complement each other.

Social behavior:
Alex didn't eat humans. Obviously she loves the sea and explores the depths around the islands. She has some strange habits like chewing on a piece of tire rubber when she is sad or worried. Rob hates that, but melts when she looked at him with her big dark eyes. When she dives, she carries an old AK diving rifle modified to fire harpoon spears with blank rounds. It's a gift from Rob. To his annoyance, she had made her own third world gunsmith modification to convert the AK into a bullpop rifle.
Alex is pretty even-tempered most of the time, but she can get into a blood frenzy, especially when she's hungry or when she's raging on a pirate boat.
As she got older, she had developed some feelings for Rob. He finds it strange, but then again, nobody is that close to him. She's family, friend or maybe more.
