I've never understood the process by which you go from grey values to colour. Are you painting colours over the top on another layer on some kind of blending mode? Is that how it's done?

Yes, I usually create an Overlay where I add most of the colors. I later merge them to work on the details. That way I can color the whole thing in only a few minutes, if I got the values right in the grayscale sketch, that is

Ahhhh, interesting. I've been wondering because I have noticed so may artists on this site (and other art blogs I follow) work in this way but I didn't really get it. I'm only just beginning to learn about how to really work with colour and value. Thanks for replying, very informative.

Pretty awesome! Its nice to see the progress on yer artworks, maybe I should try greyscaling backgrounds first, too. The landscape in this reminds me of a setting in Baldurs Gate 2 Throne of Bhaal, if you ever happened to play it? Keep up that good work
