Do you think Imelda was the one who ripped Hector's head off of the family portrait, but somehow Coco managed to get a hold of the piece and keep with her secretly?
This certainly looks like something that could have happened in the past. Coco most likely never gave up hope that her father will come back, even though her mother would strongly think otherwise.

It was definitely not Coco. Imelda must have done it and dropped it into the trash or on the floor? I mean, how else did Coco get it? I kinda doubt she just sort of handed it to Coco to keep, becauseΒ in the movie she told Hector that she tried to forget him and tried to make Coco forget him too.
According to the director who answered some questions about "Coco" on twitter, Imelda and Coco never even knew or suspected Hector was murdered, and not just left them. So Coco could have easily waited for him all this time.
