Quilavas are awesome <3 It's annoying that nimbleness is their biggest strength yet it doesn't exist in the games. I wish they'd add it in somehow. I wanna see cute things like Quilava, Buizel and Umbreon kick butt X3

Demintai-Eclipse In reply to BudCharles [2014-08-23 10:06:53 +0000 UTC]
Yes they are x3 And yeah, the way pokemon games are, turn based and so, pokemons' nimbleness sadly doesn't affect anything there .3. why not nimbleness stat <.< It would be nice to see them being awesome and totally own pokemon many times bigger/stronger than them xD Umbreon actually is a good pokemon in the games too but sadly other cute pokemon not very much .3. unless you make them lv. 100 or so
BudCharles In reply to Demintai-Eclipse [2014-08-23 10:55:45 +0000 UTC]
I actually planned the mathematics for a nimbleness stat (I called it agility at the time but I've changed it to nimbleness now because agility is already a move so it would get confusing).
I forget exactly what the equation was, but basically it is based on the user's species and level (first and middle evolutions have the highest nimbelenss, final and mega evolutions have the lowest, also animal-like pokemon usually have higher nimbleness and human-like ones are usually lower, because that's just logical, humans are not very agile; and of course a level 100 pokemon has way higher nimbleness than a level 50 pokemon).
Anyway essentially how it works is pokemon with a higer nimbleness get increased evasiveness in battle, so it is still turn-based, but hard for the opposing pokemon to land as many hits.
It is able to be countered with moves that lower evasiveness so it's not an all-powerful game-destroyer like Mega Speed Boost Blaziken was. And it's more realistic, because real life small animals don't sit there and get bashed up, they avoid attacks.
And it would make the game a lot more fair for people who would rather win with something cute and cuddly like Quilava or Buizel, rather than some big ugly robot or humanoid thingy. Of course old strategies will still be possible, it'll just even things out, because cute pokemon can't be wiped out in the first turn anymore.
It'd also counter the game-unbalancing effects of mega evolutions which IMO are the worst decision GameFreak has ever made. I always loved the pokemon series because you chose who the hero was ,if you wanted to kick ass with Typhlosion, you kicked ass with Typhlosion, if you wanted to win with a Furret, go for it! But now, it's pretty much impossible to survive without a mega on your team, especially in online gameplay. It undermines all the things that made pokemon great.
But fortunately with the nimbleness stat mega evolutions would no longer be all-powerful and pokemon would once again be free and balanced. GameFreak were awesome enough to make the first 5 gens, so hopefully some day they'll think of doing this as well.

That's actually pretty genius.
Perhaps it would also have something to do with the pokemon's weight? Lighter pokemon would of course be nimbler. For example Quilava weight 19 kg (I use kilograms, yes... bulbapedia has the weight of all pokemon listed in kg and... not-kg), and Aron weight 60 kg, Zekrom 345 kg and Gastly 0.1 kg... Maybe somehow?
And yeah, Mega Blaziken is pretty powerful, though it's in Ubers thankfully. If you play with smogon's stantards or whoever made them. (I'm not competetive nor do I play online with random people...)
Blaziken is one of my favourite pokemon but I rarely actually use it. I just like drawing them.
On a side note, Pachirisu was used on the VGC World Champion's team and it did well, despite it usually considered weak. Draco meteor was nothin to it.

Thanks xD I'm hoping to start a game company some day so I can work with GameFreak on this (if they don't think of it first, they are pretty smart), but knowing my luck and ability or lack thereof it probably wouldn't work out XD
Maybe. I'd have to go through each pokemon's weight, appearance, evolution line position and exisiting abilities to try and come up with the most logical and balanced system. Something that looks nimble, is unevolved or a middle evolution, has no big existing strengths and/or is lightweight would have higher nimbleness, and something that looks slow, is mega evolved, has an existing powerful ability or very high stat and/or is heavy would have lower nimbleness. And of course the #1 influence on nimbleness would be level, so training is still very important. Perhaps Pokemon Amie could affect it as well.
It would basically be a big balancer for the whole game, so effort and strategy becomes the #1 most important thing again, rather than just choice of pokemon.
I never really play online either but I am still concerned about online gameplay because it has a huge impact on the popularity of pokemon and the fairness of games. Most people, at least at my school, only care about stats and winning. So since mega evolutions came out, Blaziken's popularity skyrocketed, and Typhlosion's became pretty much non-existent. And nobody even mentions the Sinnoh region anymore at my school and Sinnoh always gets voted least favourite region in online polls, which is interesting considering the Sinnoh starters got no megas.
And that's important to me, because 50 years in the future when pokemon's over and only the most popular ones are remembered, I don't want the Johto, Sinnoh and Unova pokemon and the middle evolutions to be lost to history just because they had lower stats.
Well most people are not world champions xP

Demintai-Eclipse In reply to BudCharles [2014-08-23 15:36:16 +0000 UTC]
Well who knows xD nimbleness could possibly be put into pokemon sometime in the future, i dont see why new stats couldn't be added.
Yeah, it would be some work. Amie does give some boosts to evasion and critical hit ratio but they wont come in online play, so I don't know about that. Though it could be affected by those other things.
It would make it more realistic and interesting, I'd like to see it work out.
True.
I think every starter should get a mega evo. Even if mega evolutions aren't too overpowered, they are still quite a big thing.
Well, at least sinnoh will get attention when it's remakes are coming out, I believe.
Hmm, personally I don't think any pokemon can be completely forgotten, (or then they all every single one eventually will be forgotten), because there always will be art and stuff to remind people. And of course, it's not always the stats that matter.
Well I sort of meant that if you're skilled you can still win even if you use 'weaker' pokemon

BudCharles In reply to Demintai-Eclipse [2014-08-24 06:04:47 +0000 UTC]
New stats already have been added, in Gen 2 they removed "special" and added special attack and special defense to balance the game more. So yes it's completely possible to add new stats, it's already been done. So yeah nimbleness could totally work, and a similar change has been done before, and everyone was fine with it.
They also introduced dark types to counteract psychic types. Gen 2 was probably the most fair and balanced gameplay we've ever had in Pokemon, or just video games in general. It was before fire/fighting starters and uber legendaries came in as an attempt to out-do the last generation's pokemon, the designs were good enough in Gen 2 that they didn't need to overpower the stats of pokemon to make people like them. Gen 2 didn't have any Blaziken or Arceus or Mega Evolutions, it just had cute well-designed pokemon and balanced gameplay.
I'm not saying other gens didn't have that, I'm just saying Gen 2 was best at it, so that's what future games' stats, gameplay, pokemon designs and region designs should probably be modelled on, except with modern graphics and the faster modern levelling-up system.
But anyway, enough of my Johto nostalgia, getting back on topic I know that Amie already affects evasiveness, but if Amie permanently boosted a Pokemon's nimbleness stat, it would have a much bigger effect. Especially in online play because being a stat it would stay effective even when a pokemon was online.
A Sinnoh remake? Then a Unova remake? Then a Kalos remake? Then a whatever-comes-after that remake? Which leaves Kanto and Johto to get no attention ever again by the time 20 years pass?
Instead of that they should remake Kanto first before Sinnoh, that way they can remake:
Hoenn and Kanto in Gen 6,
Sinnoh in Gen 7,
Unova and Johto in Gen 8,
Kalos in Gen 9,
Gen 7 and Hoenn in Gen 10,
Gen 8 in Gen 11,
Gen 9 and Sinnoh in Gen 12,
Gen 10 in Gen 13,
Gen 11 and Unova in Gen 14,
Gen 12 in Gen 15
Gen 13 and Kanto in Gen 16,
Gen 14 in Gen 17,
Gen 15 and Johto in Gen 18...
...and so on looping through Kanto to Unova but with 2 remakes of newer games in between so the first 5 gens don't get forgotten but they don't remake them too soon so it doesn't get boring.
Yes, pokemon can be forgotten. Pokemon's only been around for 18 years. Give it 50 years and the less popular pokemon will be completely forgotten. Not enough people will want them for them to be worth the effort of redrawing so they'll just be dropped from the game. Or the whole series might be gone by then - remember 50 years from now is 2064 - and in that case only the really popular ones like Charizard and Blaziken and Pikachu will live on in cultural memory. Unless all pokemon are nearly equally popular, some will get forgotten.
That's how culture works. We only remember the mythical animals that were super popular in medieval and ancient Greek times, like dragons and unicorns and phoenixes and elves. Very few if any people remember the less popular ones, most mythical creatures have probably been lost to history.
Yes but "skilled" people, at least people skilled enough to win with an unevolved pokemon with no special abilities, are about 0.1% of the Pokemon fandom, and legendary-using noobs are about 70%, at least at my school. So we need to make all pokemon equally tough, just in different ways, so EVERYONE can use they pokemon they want, not just the 0.1% who can win a global competition with a Pachirisu. I'm not saying it needs to be easy, the games can still be hard, just equally hard for everyone. Using a Blaziken should not be any easier than using a Buizel. It should be different, but not easier.

Yeah, maybe they'll add it in then.
Hmm, yeah and it would also give amie a reason to be there for those who play online too. Since now it just... is there. Sure it gives those boosts but only for not-online.
I also figured that they should probably remake kanto and johto sometime soon maybe, and not just leave them forgotten.
Hmm, true, I suppose. Though in enough years every single pokemon will probably be forgotten.
Yeah, I suppose you're right. It should be more balanced, like that.

Hopefully, or at least something like it :3
Yeah, and it'd make the boosts more important too :3
Not necessarily, dragons and unicorns never got forgotten. Pokemon just needs to be big enough to become permanently ingrained in our culture, to the point where it becomes bigger than itself.

Yeah ^^ and since I'm planning on doing a nuzlocke comic, or perhaps even several of them I really should learn to draw all sorts of pokemon. Backgrounds maybe because I'm not going to color it because if I do, I'll never get it done. I hate coloring that much xD

BudCharles In reply to Demintai-Eclipse [2014-08-28 08:48:57 +0000 UTC]
I don't like nuzlockes :C
Three reasons, first they restrict creativity because people just decide to do a nuzlocke to make their comic engaging instead of trying to think of an original idea, second I don't like seeing cute little pokemon die, and third it makes no logical sense that pokemon would be willing to die for a sport, and trainers would be willing to let them die.
Sorry, nuzlockes and mega evolutions are the two issues in pokemon that get me really fired up XD

Demintai-Eclipse In reply to BudCharles [2014-08-28 11:48:16 +0000 UTC]
Ah xD I understand c:
I just figured I might do one because comics are a great way to improve drawing skills. I'm not creative enough to completely think of an original comic, I can do that but it would take SOO much time... And there would be so many plotholes. I'm trying to think of a good plot for the nuzlocke but well... My lack of creativeness is sort of getting in the way. I used to be a very creative person but my creativeness... Disappeared somewhere.
I don't like seeing cute pokemon die either ;3; it makes me so sad but then again I'm a bit quirky so that .3. hmm well I don't really know how to explain it
It's okay XD we all have different things we like and dislike and it's ok

Oh it's ok XD Well I can come up with ideas for you if you want, I'm great at ideas but terrible at drawing stuff, so together we'd be a good team :3

Demintai-Eclipse In reply to BudCharles [2014-08-28 17:00:45 +0000 UTC]
Yeah xD I could use some help, yes :3 I'm not that good at drawing either but... I'm decent I guess, and I'm improving a lot all the time ^^ I suppose we would :3 I really need ideas in this comic and also in drawings in general, I really want to draw more but I lack inspiration.
If you want to help with the nuzlocke, I have some things thought out but the major parts really need some work... It's a SoulSilver nuzlocke. I've thought that, since Team Rocket is there they will at least have some sort of role there, but the thing is, why does the character start the adventure in the first place, also what's the deal with Red... Problematic. Also the main character needs a name <.< I don't think that I'll be using 'myself' in the comic.

Of course she will care, but I'll see if she starts to care more along the adventure.
Of course first I should probably learn how to draw humans...
And alrighty then, we'll talk more tomorrow then owo/
