Description
It's been roughly two months, since I got started on this bunch of chibi-pangolins. It's been hard work, but finally all but one are finished and they are all sporting new colors. The only exception is the chibi at the bottom right corner. It was made 2 years ago and shows the original color!It's been a long journey filled with massive amounts of scale clipping, jotting down of notes and what not, in order to collect some useful information - like how many pure working hours I spend on making a chibi pangolin, the sizes and number of scales needed, how much material they use etc.. Despite my best effort of trying to find a method, that would help streamline the workflow for future chibis and predict the number of scales and how to arrange them, it just didn't work out. In the end I got piles of left over scales of sizes I thought I would be using and five chibis with highly individual scale arrangements and total numbers. Oh well, at least I tried. xD
~~~ Chibi pangolins can be commissioned in my charity Shop @ demiscorner.bigcartel.com/ ~~~
The price for a chibi plush is 170 USD + shipping. A portion of the price (70 USD) is always donated to help protect pangolins in the wild.
Materials: Faux suede, polyester filling, glass eyes and water-based glue.
These are amazing and I can appreciate ALL of the detailing and TIME that went into making these. My hubby and I remarked about the scales and the time consuming work that went into creating that effect! An EXCELLENT job and they are just ADORABLE!!!! Some folks just don't understand what it takes to make a plushie whether it be for a commission or not, but as a plushie maker myself, as well as the amount of time and work I have had to put into writing/directing/producing a play...I do understand. Well done!
Thank you for your lovely comment! And I agree with everything you've said. It's time consuming and hard work and people just don't want to pay for it, when they're used to the low prices that come with something made thousandfold in a factory. :z Thanks again for your comment.
Yes, like the MLP plushies you buy at Walmart and the TY Beanie Baby Toys! OMG...the ones at Walmart have seams that are coming apart, cheap stuffing inside, cheap cheap cheap (what they call) minky material and the Ty Beanies...well they are so quickly made that the eyes aren't even in alignment with the other...I took a photo of one so I could create a poster for Brony Con showing the pros of buying commissioned handmade artwork plushies vs buying those cheap China made ^*()()! So, definitely keep up the good work!
If you haven't seen it already, but can ever find it on TV or the internet, watch a documentary film called "Walmart High Cost Low Prices". It details how items are made in China, what the Chinese workers have to endure and piddly squat amount of money they're paid to make a toy that Walmart turns around and charges like 1000 times what it cost to make. My family tries, whenever possible to buy USA made products.
Yeah, that's right. Whenever I buy a factory made plush, I have a hard time finding one that doesn't look like it had a car accident before reaching the store. I went to Germany by train earlier this summer and there was a one hour break or so in between trains in Hamburg. The train station there is anything but cozy, but there was a small store in there selling high quality plushies from at least one famous German brand, but there were also some that were of some other producer. At any rate it was a real treat walking around in there, looking at all those well made animals. When I left, I brought a calico cat and some kind of wild canine with large ears. Both are adorable and I adore them.
Thanks for the tip. I've written down the title of the documentary.
